The mighty Pop'Aye tossed by the sea,
Wind roared like beasts, wild and free.

Waves like mountains, dark and tall,
Threatened to make the brave ship fall.

Through blackest night, a tiny spark,
We fought the storm, left our mark.

Each lurch and crash, a test so deep,
While weary souls their vigil keep.

The mast it groaned, the sails held sure,
And on we sailed, wanting more.

Dawn broke at last, a gentle gleam,
And Mackinac rose, a hopeful dream.

We reached the shore, though tired and sore,
The perilous journey, we survived for sure.

We rented a long reach excavator and removed old sunken heavy duty docks and the sunken schooner Blue Dolphin. These have long been hazards in the canal. Check out the engine that came out of the schooner. It is taller than me.

Baby steps with the work. We are waiting for permits to dredge the canal to 10’ below low water level along the shoreline and a new seawall. Afterwards we will be installing floating docks for about 60 boat slips for 25’ to 70’ sailboats.

We have removed brush/trees, trimmed trees, and installed a new gate/fence between our new property and the St Jean Boat Launch. The right side of the entrance photo is the boat launch entrance and the left side is the new future entrance onto Goat Yard property. We continue to take baby steps.

As we continue to work with various departments for the City of Detroit and the State of Michigan, signs of support for the Goat Yard development project from the boating community and the surrounding community in general would be helpful. If any of you would like to provide a letter of support for what we are trying do, we would greatly appreciate it. If you decide to, you can text or email your letter to Hanson Bratton at 248-640-4407 or hanson@ goatyardmarine.com.

Thank you in advance.

In light of the low water cycle we are currently experiencing, we are welding angle iron ladders every 12 feet on the existing seawall to help people get on and off their boats when laid up on the wall. Also will help if anybody gets tossed into the canal.

After 3 years of work, Goat Yard Marine has finalized the purchase of the 9-acre property from the City of Detroit located between the existing GY properties and the Detroit River. This major purchase will allow us to move into our next phase of expansion of our operations.

We have a great team of engineers, architects, attorneys, and other experts that have been working on the property purchase, engineering analysis, site layout, and design for our expansion. We are moving into the approval/permit process while we figure out how to finance the development. We hope to begin some work this winter and will likely continue over the next couple of years.

We intend to install a new seawall along the canal shoreline, dredge the canal, install a marina with a floating dock system, a large boat repair facility, a large inside heated storage building, other supporting services, and a bar/grill on the River shoreline. The attached Site Plan is preliminary and will likely change over time.

Wish us luck!!
