The paint code that we get off you car can be the same as that of many other cars from many different Auto Makers. The Sherwin-Williams software we us will allow our Technician's to enter the paint code, make and model car, and the date of production for that car. The software will find the mix and display any alternates. This is where the Technicians training and experience come into play. Most paint codes these days have alternates because auto makers use different production plants to produce the same models and the Paint used in each plant may be slightly different. Auto makers also may use different paint makers like Sherwin-Williams, BASF, DuPont, and other automotive paint company's. I do know that BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, GM, Ford, and Chrysler all have had one or more of the major paint makers as am exclusive provider at some point but if there is any reason the paint cant be delivered on time auto makers will go where they can get the product so that production doesn't stop.
