A new permanent statewide sales tax exemption will go into effect August 1 for many disaster preparedness supplies—helping Florida residents save money and stay safe year-round. From hurricanes to wildfires, early preparation is key, and you can stock up tax-free on essentials including:
- Batteries (AA-cell, AAA-cell, C-cell, D-cell, 6-volt or 9-volt)
- Fire extinguishers
- Insect repellent
- Life jackets
- Portable gas or diesel cans (5 gallons or less)
- Portable generators
- Smoke detection devices and carbon monoxide alarms
- Waterproof tarps (1,000 square feet or less)
- Sunscreen
- Ground anchor systems and tie-down kits
