Why Foggy Windows Can Make Driving More Dangerous

Cooler mornings and warmer afternoons can make your windows fog up fast. It may seem like a small inconvenience, but foggy glass can quickly turn into a real driving risk. When your windshield, side windows, or mirrors are cloudy, it becomes harder to spot brake lights, pedestrians, lane markings, and vehicles around you.

Fog usually happens when moisture in the air meets a surface with a different temperature. That is why it often shows up when you first start the car, after rain, or when several passengers are inside. The key is to clear it before you drive, not while you are already on the road.

Start by using your defroster and setting the air toward the windshield. Turning on the A/C can also help remove moisture from the cabin air, even when the weather feels cool. If your windows fog often, check that your recirculation setting is not trapping humid air inside the vehicle. Bringing in fresh air can help balance the temperature and clear the glass faster.

It also helps to keep the inside of your windshield clean. Dust, fingerprints, and film can hold moisture and make fog worse. A quick wipe with a microfiber cloth can improve visibility more than you might think.

Clear windows are part of safe driving. Before you shift into gear, take the extra minute to make sure you can see in every direction.
