Day 10 Why should I have my vehicle regularly detailed? (Last one, I promise!)
Longevity
Once again, from the Tabula Rasa website:
The exterior of a car that is driven regularly will obviously be exposed to the elements when on the road. Dirt, sand, rocks, water, bugs, tar or anything other road grime are just a few things your car’s exterior takes a beating from while you drive down the road. The sun’s UV rays also take a toll on the car’s paint, plastic trim and chrome finishes on the car. Removing the road contaminants on a regular basis and adding protection to these surfaces are what keeps the car looking its best. We will start with the paint. Most cars on the road today have a base coat/ clear coat on them. The clear coat over the color adds gloss and protection but can break down over time from the sun and elements. Adding some sort of protection on top of the paint will aid in prolonging the life of the paints finish. Using a wax, sealant, coating will help contaminants from sticking to the paint, making it easier to wash. They will provide another layer of protection from the sun’s UV rays as well. Having the protection also makes washing much easier if maintained properly. Another option is to have paint protection film added to the car, which can be done in just the high traffic areas( front bumper, headlights, hood, rocker panels, mirrors) or to the entire car. This will aid a barrier between the paint and the elements. You can add a coating on top of the film and aside from never driving the car you have protected the vehicle the most you can. Maintaining the car is the most vital step. Nothing is more important than the maintenance factor. No matter how much protection you put on the car if you don’t maintain the car the layer of protection will break down. Bi weekly washes or having a regular schedule with your detailer will pay off when extending the life of the car. B.Interior
Have you ever noticed the dash of a car that is cracked, bubbling, or is faded? Or a seats that are sun faded? This is unavoidable in some areas but there are things you can do to prevent this. Carpets and seats also take a beating. The carpet in your car can become dirty from anything you track in on your shoes. It can get crumbs from food you may have eaten in the car. The dog’s hair is stuck in every crack and crevice. Regular cleaning is very important to keep these things from building up and causing damage. Cleaning is not where you should stop because not matter how clean the car is if it’s not protected it can still become damaged. The sun can cause damage to any exposed areas and really make a car look bad in a matter of years. Once surfaces are cleaned you can add a layer of protection to any surface of the car. The carpets, leather and plastic trim can all be coated with some sort of UV protectant to prevent this. The product you use should always have some sort of UV protection in it. The leather and fabric can be protected with various products on the market. This will make them resistant to staining, fading and from absorbing anything transferred from your shoes or clothes. Again this is about maintenance, once these protective products are added they must be applied regularly throughout the life of the car. Ask your detailer or find one of the hundreds of online forums and guides and see what you can do to protect your car’s interior.
