GWR's new reserve tank assembly is finally done, and the first run parts are sold and shipping out to customers! Second run already started. This system allows you to pit on the absolute last lap before you would run out of fuel on the track, and complete every one of those laps under full power.
The GWR Reserve tank replaces your surge tank, and like a normal surge, prevents starvation due to fuel slosh. The difference is that our reserve tank has a second chamber inside that only becomes active when the driver flips a switch. This takes the guess work out of estimating fuel range by allowing you to run your main fuel tank or cell completely dry, then flip a switch and have just enough fuel to get back to the pit stall under full power. Additionally, there are two level sensors in the surge chamber to warn the driver that he'll soon be running on reserve, or confirm that the "weird stutter" is just the car running out of gas and it's time to activate the reserve and pit in.
Total capacity is 0.5 gallons, and the tank is confirmed legal with Champcar Endurance Series. Also appropriate for WRL, AER, or any series where maximizing fuel range is critical.
On cars with an appropriate twin-lift system, the surge side is effective enough that there is less than a mile between first stutter and stopped on track. However, there's another quart of fuel in reserve, so no getting towed in. There's also an early warning so that you can tell your crew to get suited up, and a "last chance" warning to give you a little extra margin on long tracks like Road America.
