After more than a decade on my bucket list, I finally made it to Targa Newfoundland!

For those not in the know, it’s an all-tarmac rally spanning over 2,000 km of the province. It combines “transit” stages—where you soak in the beauty of Newfoundland—with “competition” stages that send you flying through coastal roads and small communities as fast as you dare.

I came into this with zero rally experience and a car that definitely wasn’t a rally car. But thanks to an incredible co-driver and crew, an amazing community of competitors, and some of the most breathtaking roads in Canada, we not only finished—we finished 2nd in class and 4th overall.

It was everything I hoped it would be:
• Fast, technical, and unpredictable stages
• Stunning Newfoundland scenery (some of which I even managed to notice when we slowed down!)
• Passionate organizers, volunteers, and locals who made it feel like more than a race—it felt like a family

After so much time lately spent as a wrench, I was reminded just how much I love being behind the wheel.

This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, and I’ll be sharing more highlights in the coming days.

This is a 2022 GR86 fondly known as Gas GRrrr to team Scalar. Full FIA race cage, stock tank half full and auxiliary fuel cell in trunk is full (40L). Passenger seat and harness installed. No driver. Will add a comment with what we change it to but interested to hear your thoughts!

The season started off on the podium at the Mosport season opener and will continue this weekend at Shannonville Motorsports Park.
