What are the odds of your missing truck part driving right past you?
Dylan Meador had recently bought a gold 2001 Ford F-250, but it came with one very noticeable issue: the tailgate was silver because a previous owner had swapped it out.
Then, while leaving Verizon, he spotted something that looked almost too perfect to be real. A silver Ford F-250 passed by with a gold tailgate.
Instead of letting the moment disappear in traffic, Meador caught up with the other driver and explained the situation. The two pulled into a grocery store parking lot, compared the trucks, and realized they had exactly what each other needed.
A gold truck with a silver tailgate. A silver truck with a gold tailgate. Same problem, opposite colors.
So they handled it the most truck-owner way possible. They unbolted the mismatched tailgates right there in the parking lot and traded them on the spot.
By the end of the swap, both F-250s finally looked like they were supposed to, with matching factory-style finishes restored after more than two decades on the road.
The story quickly went viral after being shared in the “Dad Swagg” Facebook group, then spread across Reddit communities like r/Damnthatsinteresting and r/MakeMeSmile, where people loved the simple, funny, oddly perfect timing of it all.
No paint shop. No scrapyard hunt. No long search for the right color. Just two strangers, two trucks, and one very lucky parking lot meeting.
Would you have followed a stranger to ask about swapping a tailgate?
