The Milwaukee-Eight and the Knucklehead are separated by eighty-five years of engineering evolution.
The displacement is larger. The tolerances are tighter. The thermal management is sophisticated in ways the 1936 engineers could not have predicted. The power output would have seemed fictional to the men who built the first overhead valve V-twin in Milwaukee.
But look at the architecture. The V-twin layout. The pushrod overhead valves. The air cooling. The fundamental philosophy of what a Harley-Davidson engine is supposed to be.
The line is unbroken.
Every Milwaukee-Eight carries the Knucklehead's answer forward — yes, American engineering can lead — into an era the original engineers never got to see.
