At 10:27 this morning, a first-alarm fire was reported on Mechanic Street in the Borough. Initial reports indicated possible entrapment of children inside the residence.
At the time of the dispatch, a full engine crew from the Danielson Fire Department, along with Car 61, responded immediately to the scene. While en route, QV Dispatch advised that all children had safely exited the home.
Members from KB Ambulance and an officer from the South Killingly Fire Department arrived on scene to find a working kitchen fire. Initial extinguishment efforts were attempted; however, the fire had already begun to spread.
Moments later, Engine 261 arrived on scene with a full crew of interior firefighters and immediately deployed a hose line through the rear of the residence, quickly beginning to darken down the fire. Mutual aid companies simultaneously conducted searches of the building for any potential occupants or pets.
During the search, a 61 firefighter successfully rescued a cat from the residence, and thankfully, it appeared to be unharmed.
The scene has been turned over to the Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office for further investigation.
