Haulover Inlet gave me another good one.

This is a cormorant — most likely a Double-crested Cormorant — and he looked like he had something very important to announce to the whole inlet.

Cormorants are built for the water. They dive underwater to chase fish, use their webbed feet like paddles, and unlike ducks, their feathers are not as waterproof. That is why you often see them standing around with their wings spread open, drying off after a dive.

That is one of the things I love about being on the water so much. You never really know what is going to show up. Some days it is dolphins. Some days it is manatees. Some days it is a bird on a marker at Haulover Inlet looking like it owns the whole place.

South Florida has a lot more going on than people see from the road. The wildlife, the water, the sky, the mangroves, the sandbars, and all these little moments are what make every trip different.

☀️ THERE’S NO BETTER WAY TO BEAT THE SOUTH FLORIDA HEAT THAN SPENDING TIME ABOARD Prosperity! 🛥️🌴

And don’t let the weather forecast scare you too quickly. ⛈️ Around here, the weatherman may say storms are coming, but many times they stay out west and we still get plenty of beautiful time on the water.

Tired of all the sargassum washing up on the beach?

I’ve had a few surprise proposals happen aboard Water Limo, and I have to admit… they’re pretty damn neat to watch. 😂💍🛥️

The funny part is, I usually know before one person on the boat does.

So now I’m driving around Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, and Dania Beach trying to act completely normal while somebody is carrying a ring, acting suspicious, sweating for no reason, and giving me the look that says:

“Captain Mike… don’t screw this up.” 😂

No pressure.

Then the moment happens.

The question gets asked.

And suddenly I get a front-row seat to a memory these people are probably going to talk about for the rest of their lives.

That’s one of the things I really like about doing this.

Sometimes it’s a sunset cruise.

Sometimes it’s dolphins, manatees, mansions, mega yachts, the sandbar, or just getting out on the water.

And every once in a while…

Some days on the water are just different.

You can plan the route, pick the time, watch the weather, and do everything right — but wildlife is still wildlife. Then out of nowhere, the dolphins show up and the whole trip changes.

That is one of my favorite parts of running Water Limo. One minute you are cruising through Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Dania Beach, Port Everglades, Whiskey Creek, or the mangroves, and the next minute everyone on the boat is quiet because dolphins are moving through the water right beside us.

I can never guarantee dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, or any wildlife. That is exactly what makes it special when it happens. It is real. It is wild. It is South Florida from the water.

Some of the best moments on the water happen when everything goes still.

No wake. No rush. No noise. Just calm water, soft evening light, mangroves, reflections, and one of those quiet scenes that makes you stop talking for a minute and just look around.

This is one of the things I love most about being out here every day. Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Dania Beach, Port Everglades, Whiskey Creek, the mangroves, the sandbars — there is always something different to see if you slow down long enough to notice it.

Some trips are about music, laughing, swimming, and having a great time. Other moments are like this — peaceful, beautiful, and almost impossible to explain unless you see it from the water.
