A SERIOUS REMINDER ABOUT CHEMICAL SAFETY

I want to share something that happened to me this week, especially for everyone who works around detailing chemicals, acids, wheel cleaners, degreasers, and other strong products every day.

Wear your protection. Every. Single. Time.

I recently ended up dealing with chemical/acid burns and irritation on my face / eye after what I believe was chemical residue getting onto my hands and then being transferred to my face. It didn’t take me dumping a chemical directly on myself. A small amount of residue was enough to cause swelling, burning, irritation, and several days of worrying about how badly my skin has been damaged.

When you work with these products every day, it’s easy to get comfortable. You grab the bottle, spray a wheel, wipe something down, and move on to the next vehicle. After thousands of times doing it without a problem, PPE can start feeling unnecessary.

Until the one time it isn’t.

Gloves. Eye protection. Proper clothing. Good ventilation. Follow the dilution instructions and the SDS for the chemical you’re using. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your face, eating, drinking, or doing anything else.

Some of the chemicals we use professionally are incredibly effective because they’re aggressive. Your skin and eyes don’t know the difference between a dirty wheel and living tissue.

I’m sharing my experience because I learned the hard way that being experienced with a chemical doesn’t make you immune to it.

Protect yourself. Protect your employees. Take the extra minute to put the PPE on.

The job isn’t worth getting hurt over. 🧤🥽
