🚨 A Transmission Fluid Leak Needs to Be Properly Repaired — Not Just Covered Up

A transmission fluid leak can quickly turn into a much bigger problem if it isn’t properly repaired. Finding the source of the leak and installing the correct replacement part is important to prevent further fluid loss and potential transmission damage.

2017 Buick Regal 2.0T

✔️ Diagnosed a severe transmission fluid leak
✔️ Located the leak at the transmission cooler inlet line
✔️ Removed the leaking transmission cooler line
✔️ Discovered the previously supplied replacement line was incorrect
✔️ Identified the correct replacement line
✔️ Installed the correct transmission cooler line
✔️ Refilled the transmission with the necessary fluid
✔️ Checked the repair for leaks
✔️ Transmission drain/fill complete
✔️ Verified the vehicle was back on the road and driving properly

The customer originally had another mechanic come out after noticing transmission fluid leaking from the vehicle. The previous repair attempt involved applying RTV around the leaking line in an attempt to stop the leak.

The customer was charged $100 and was told that the transmission cooler line needed to be replaced. They were also given a part number for the replacement line.

After contacting me, I came out to remove the old line and install the replacement part the customer had purchased.

Once I removed the old line, I discovered that the part provided was actually the wrong transmission cooler line for the vehicle.

We ordered the correct line the following morning. Once the correct part arrived, I returned a few hours later, installed it, and properly checked the repair.

The vehicle was back on the road and driving again.

🚨 STOP — Don’t Ignore Oil Leaks Until They Turn Into Bigger Engine Problems

A small valve cover gasket leak can eventually lead to oil contamination, burning oil smells, vacuum leaks, and poor engine performance. Waiting too long can also cause damage to surrounding components and lead to more expensive repairs.

Just completed this repair for my great friend David Fischer (best car dealer in the world):

2014 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L Gasoline (Non-Turbo)

✔️ Replaced valve cover gasket
✔️ Removed intake manifold for proper access
✔️ Replaced intake manifold gasket
✔️ Cleaned gasket sealing surfaces
✔️ Applied RTV in the required factory locations
✔️ Reassembled and inspected all components
✔️ Verified proper installation after RTV curing

This particular engine requires the intake manifold to be removed in order to properly replace the valve cover gasket, making it a much more involved job than many people expect. Taking the extra time to clean everything correctly and allowing the RTV to fully cure helps ensure a long-lasting, leak-free repair.

The repair took a little over 28 hours from start to finish, including waiting on parts and allowing the RTV to properly cure before final inspection. 🚨 STOP — Don’t Overpay for A/C Repairs

Many repair shops charge hundreds of dollars for simple A/C electrical repairs and blower motor replacements once labor, diagnostic fees, and parts markups are included.

2019 Volkswagen Tiguan

✔️ Diagnosed an A/C blower motor concern

The customer originally received a quote of $180 for the blower motor replacement. After discussing the repair, we worked the price down to $100 in labor, and the customer decided that was a fair price to move forward.

After installing the replacement blower motor, the A/C still did not appear to be operating correctly. Instead of stopping there or recommending unnecessary repairs, I performed additional diagnosis and found the actual issue — a misplaced fuse from a previous repair.

Since the blower motor was not the true cause of the failure, I’m going to swap the original blower motor back in and only charge $20 for the additional diagnosis and correction.
