I'm going to try to post on here more. Last year around October I started doing an alarming amount of engines and got pretty behind and ended up staying behind all year.
With that being said, I would also like to mention a lot (not all) of these engines failed due to lack of maintenance. A well overdue oil change, an air filter that wasn't changed/cleaned enough or ever.
Some of these machines had 1000 miles. One was only a few months old. I know sometimes maintenance isn't that cheap but it's a lot cheaper then a $5,000 to 10,000 plus bill..
Just a few of my personal tips:
Keep up with your engine oil. You should check it every ride and at minimum change your engine oil every 50 hours or once a year if you hardly drive it. If you like to ride the limiter and get wild with it you should probably change your oil every 25 hours. I keep most oil filters and oils in stock.
Air filter...first off I would highly recommend not using K&N for offroad applications. Check your air filter every ride, paper filters smack the corner on the ground see if its dusty, just because it looks clean doesn't mean it is. Change it! Or atleast GENTLY blow it out. If its a foem filter, wash it with dawn, gently blow it out, let it dry, oil it and install it. Add grease where it mates. OEM filters can be more expensive. I do offer cheaper alternatives that usually are half the price of oem and are as good or better then oem. If you would like one give me a call, I keep RZR, Ranger and some CanAm's in stock.
Mud - wash it off! As you can see in most of these pictures, this is why I now have a $200 wash fee. Not because I want to wash your machine, because I don't have time to, it's a deterrent. Don't bring me muddy units. Mud turns in to a gritty sediment after it dries and it wears out all your bushings, bearings, u-joints etc at a much faster rate. Just wash it before you park it for longevity of the unit. Also, it is recommended you grease all your zerk fittings before each ride.
Another note if you have a Honda Talon or Pioneer a lot of them that I see the intake boots pop off the throttle body. As seen in the photos. Which sucks in dirt and destroys your engine. There is a recall on some of these, but just about all of them do it so even if yours isn't in the recall, check it often.
