Hello all,

Reaching this decision and writing this letter has not come easy! This letter is to inform you that on May 22nd, 2025, Creston Automotive will be closing our doors. On that date, we will be selling our Ford Sales & Service agreement back to Ford Motor Company. Since opening for business in April 2006 as Creston Automotive, it has been our absolute pleasure to serve Creston and the surrounding communities!

Some history on Creston Automotive. On April 20th, 2006, Rick Benson, Brent Wyant, and Jim Baker purchased the Ford-Lincoln-Mercury dealership from the Burton Blazek family, who had operated it at its current location with the Harry Schlapia family since 1964. Creston Automotive continued to operate the Dealership with Rick as General Manager until June 2008. At that time, Rick purchased the store from Brent and Jim, fully. December of 2008, Rick started bringing Les Elliott, who had been with the store since August 1997, on as a partner. We have continued to operate the business, together from that point. One constant that has always been, we have always given back to Creston, and the surrounding communities! Whether it was monetary donations, loaning vehicles for use, volunteering our time, or any other way we could help, we always felt that was very important to give back!

With Rick nearing retirement, and wanting to spend more time with family, and Les wanting to transition into a different career, we made the decision to look for potential buyers in the last year or so. While we thought, on multiple occasions, that we had the right buyer to continue the dealership on, ultimately and unfortunately, that didn’t work out. From that point on, we made the incredibly difficult decision to move forward with this path.

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to THANK our customers, past and present! We wouldn’t have made it without serving you! To our employees, past and present, we could not have done it without you! You were the HEART & SOUL! THANK YOU! Iowa State Savings Bank and Tyler Insurance Services, your BIG CITY SERVICES with SMALL TOWN SERVICE, has meant you have always been there with us! THANK YOU! And finally, to all our suppliers and vendors, THANK YOU! It takes all the above-mentioned, to make this place go! We are forever GRATEFUL!
