Because of road closures and expected traffic issues this afternoon, all campuses will move to a remote learning and work schedule starting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16. Students enrolled in on-campus courses that meet on Wednesdays should check Blackboard, email, or contact their instructors with any questions. Clinicals should continue as normal.

PRESIDENT TRUMP’S VISIT TO GASTONIA

There will be significant traffic impacts Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Soft road closures and traffic restrictions are expected to begin at 10 am, with shut downs starting around 5:30 p.m. and continuing through the evening as needed. This includes both the north and southbound sides of the freeway late in the day. Please plan your rush hour commute accordingly.

The area south of I-85 around Union Road and Gaston School Road will be particularly affected.

Drivers should expect 10 am soft closures (local traffic only) and detours in the vicinity of:

* Union Road
* Gaston Day School Road
* Robinson Road
* Bud Wilson Road

Local traffic only will be permitted in some areas during the security operation. Do not use neighborhood streets as alternate routes. Access may be restricted, and you could be turned around.

If you do not need to travel in this area Wednesday afternoon or evening, the best option is to avoid the area altogether and use an alternate route.

Please allow extra time, follow posted detours and directions from officers, and be patient as we work to keep everyone safe.

🚨 TRAFFIC ALERT — WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16

Significant traffic disruptions are expected in Gastonia on Wednesday due to a presidential campaign visit and evening rally at the Gastonia Municipal Airport.

Here’s what drivers need to know:

🚧 Beginning around 10 a.m.
Soft road closures will begin in the area of Union Road, Gaston Day School Road, Robinson Road and Bud Wilson Road. These roads will remain accessible to local traffic, but drivers should expect delays and changes in traffic patterns. More road closures will begin at 2:30.

🚧 Beginning around 5:30 p.m.
Full road closures are expected to begin as security operations increase. The Union Road and Gaston Day School Road area will be particularly impacted. Closures will remain in place through the evening as needed.

🕖 The rally is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Gastonia Municipal Airport.

Our advice: If you don’t need to be in this shaded area Wednesday afternoon or evening, please avoid it. Traffic delays are expected across surrounding areas of south Gastonia, especially as the afternoon progresses.

If you do need to travel through the area, allow extra time, follow posted detours and obey directions from law enforcement and traffic-control personnel.
