🔥🚒 Recruit Class Update: 100% PASS RATE! 🚒🔥

What a way to wrap up Week 9! 💪

Today, our Covington–Newton County joint recruit class successfully completed their Firefighter I (FFI) testing with a 100% pass rate on BOTH the written exam and practical skills! 🎉👏

This is a huge accomplishment and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and countless hours of training these recruits have put in over the past nine weeks.

But they're not finished yet! With 9 weeks down and 3 to go, tomorrow begins Chapter 1 of Firefighter II (FFII) training!

Congratulations to our recruits and a big thank-you to the instructors and personnel who continue to invest in their success!

One milestone down, another challenge ahead! Keep pushing, recruits! 🚒🔥

🚒 The Training Never Stops!
Our Training Center was busy today—and not just with our recruit class!
While recruits worked through Firefighter I skills practice and run-throughs in preparation for their upcoming checkoffs, members of C-Shift were putting in some training of their own, completing checkoffs for two new relief drivers on our aerial platform. 🚒🪜
From preparing our newest firefighters to developing the skills of our current personnel, there’s always something happening at the Training Center.
Different stages of the career. Same commitment to getting better. 💪🔥

🔥🚒 Recruit Class Update: Building Skills & Confidence! 🚒🔥
Another busy week of training for our Covington–Newton County joint recruit class!
Today’s training included a maze at Newton County Fire Station 14, wildland fire practice, disoriented firefighter self-extrication, and a challenging nuts-and-bolts drill. During that exercise, recruits had to locate all the pieces and correctly assemble them while wearing a mask with their vision completely obscured. 🔩🧑‍🚒
These drills help recruits learn to stay calm, think through problems, and rely on their training when visibility is limited and conditions get tough.
Members of A-Shift also spent time working with the recruits as they prepare for their upcoming Firefighter I checkoffs. We appreciate our suppression personnel continuing to invest their time and experience in the next generation of firefighters!
Keep putting in the work, recruits! 💪🔥

🚒 Celebrating 38 Years of Service! 🎉
Today was a special day at CFD as we celebrated Lt. Scott Sewell on his final shift before retirement!
Scott began his career with the City of Covington in 1988 and transferred to the Covington Fire Department in 1993, where he has spent the past 33 years serving our department and community.
CFD retirees, city employees, members of City Council, friends, and family stopped by today to help us celebrate Scott and recognize his incredible 38 years of service to the City of Covington.
Please join us in congratulating Lt. Sewell and wishing him all the best as he begins a very well-deserved retirement! ❤️🚒

🚒 Learning, Connecting & Bringing It Back to CFD!

Members of the Covington Fire Department are in Nashville, Tennessee, this week attending First Due Unify 2026, the First Due User Summit for Fire & EMS. The event brings together fire and EMS professionals from across North America for hands-on training, product workshops, networking, and discussions on the latest technology impacting the fire service.

Representing CFD are members of our Training Division, Fire Marshal’s Office, and Suppression Division, taking advantage of opportunities to learn more about the First Due platform and how we can continue using technology to improve our operations and service to the community.

We look forward to seeing what they bring back to CFD! 🚒💻🔥

🚒 Recruit Class Update | Functional Fireground Fitness 💪

Our recruits started the morning by putting fitness and fireground skills together!

Today’s functional workout included forcible entry, drags and carries, ladder work, and traversing stairs—all while working in their gear and building the strength and endurance needed for the job.

Members of Engine 21 A-Shift joined our Training Division to work alongside the recruits, providing instruction, encouragement, and some real-world experience along the way.

Training the next generation of firefighters takes a team, and we appreciate our suppression crews taking the time to invest in this class. 🚒🔥

Keep putting in the work, recruits!
