Coastal Bend Yacht Services Marine service company providing rigging, canvas, sail repair, parts, consignment, and gifts. We bring a traditional aesthetic and mindset to modern sailboats.

We're a small family owned and operated business specializing in sailboat rigging, canvas, and sail repair. In addition to our service work we have a retail and consignment shop with an ever changing inventory including a number of gift items from our canvas shop.

There have been 2 sailboats (that we know of) locally that have been found to have hives of honeybees in the top of their masts just within the last couple of weeks. They get good and pi**ed if you try to do anything with the boats too, like move sails. I guess we will have to evaluate mastheads through binoculars to make sure they don't have any bee activity before going aloft. Don't want to find out the hard way when we get to the top, especially after Matt had a reaction when he got stung a bunch on the one from a few weeks ago.

Good on FlatironDragados for calling a beekeeper vs an exterminator. Not sure who they are going to call to get them out of the masts though. I think that may just be a waiting game and hopefully they leave on their own? 🤷‍♀️

What a turn our day took! Went out to disconnect the forestay of a boat waiting to be hauled out at North Shore Boat Works and apparently the mast had a whole hive of honey bees in it and they were good and pi**ed off once we dropped the headsail, dragging the wire halyard through their comb. Fortunately we had all the gear to protect ourselves but had to run back home to get it after Matt got stung 5 times. Here he is back at the boat to disconnect the forestay. 🐝🐝🐝
