Rats! They love the warm engines' nooks and crannies and sometime apparently love the taste of wires. Second picture: post solder repair. With shrink tubing to seal out the elements. This is before wrapping it with electrical tape and the corrugated tubing to make it a long lasting, trouble free repair.

Cause: Failed water pump shaft bearing, causing excessive play and failure of the pump front seal, eventually leading to destruction of the impeller.
Correction: New water pump.
