Is it engine building season yet?
351C in for a 'red-light' racer recipe. Yes, we shrunk the intake runners for low end torque 🀣 and some other goodies 😏 .. as a BB Chrysler guy, im jealous knowing a SBF with a 'smaller head' is equivalent to a BBM OEM head....
Stay tuned for flat tappet break-in and results!

We have been quiet on social media communications but busy in the shop. Enjoy this photo collage of a 6.0 powerstroke resurrection that was collected over the course of 3 months.

The main and thrust bearings failed and took the flexplate with them. The main saddles had severe damage as one of the mains had begun to spin. Although machine work could have been done to repair it, the cost was exponentially more than finding a donor. We had to custom build an engine lift plate and an engine stand hanger to accommodate the unique setup of the 6.0 powerstroke. We added a couple of upgrades to mitigate the shortcomings of the 6.0 powerstroke and keep the plow truck on the road for the upcoming winter and many more to come. What a beautiful piece this 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air is - numbers matched 283 CID with a 4 speed Muncie. The car had been sitting for around a decade, if not a little bit longer. One of the major concerns the customer had noted was a terrible rear main seal leak. Upon further evaluation, we confirmed that it was a rear main seal and we proceeded with removal of the rear main bearing cap for access. Upon removal of the rear main bearing cap we discovered that the rear main bearings had worn down to the intermediate bearing layer. Further evaluation had found that this was originally an automatic car; the crankshaft from the factory is different between an automatic and a manual. Doing the conversion required some Machining of the crank and a special pilot bushing. The Machining was done, but the pilot bushing that was utilized was the incorrect size, shaved down by hand, mushroomed into the crank and drilled open to accommodate the input shaft. Fortunately, the input shaft did not break and the engine's rear main bearing had taken the brunt of the force. Upon consultation with the customer, we landed on doing a full rebuild on the 283 and a tear down of the Muncie for evaluation (input shaft bearing was in quality condition and no damages to the gears) and reseal. The crank did suffer some damages and did require that the main journals be ground down .010. Assembly went very well. Initial ignition timing set at 10Β° BTDC and she fired right up in about one half rotation. After the break in procedure, she was taken out cruising and we slammed some gears for tuning. We also installed lowering springs on the front and rear, including tubular control arms and the stance is phenomenal now - see prior posts for some detailed work.

It was an opportunity of a lifetime to work on this beauty and we are grateful for that opportunity. Thank you!

Men will see this and be like "Hell yeah".

Figured we'd drop an update on the EVO ( Economic Vehicle Operations) Mustang. As you can see, she runs very well under her own power. And yes, it's one wheel. 🀣Took her around the block prior to this to get a small shake down cruise and of course, we had to test and see if there were any weak links. None have been discovered yet...

In progress is wiring.. Wiring, Wiring, Wiring, and more wiring.. Including, but not limited to: wire harness wrapping, routing, and securement. Development of the front body harness and integration of the body harness and engine harness with a separation point (connector) for service if needed in the future, and incorporating the OEM SVO Instrument cluster to read what our Ecoboost PCM is reading and much more.

Massive photo dump is in progress...

To be continued...

Customer states: "The rear shock mount on the frame has rusted away and the truck has a horrendous exhaust leak at the exhaust manifolds"

Another satisfied customer out the door. Unfortunately, the customer couldn't wait 3 days for a pre fab shock mount to arrive. So we did what we do best - we improvised and made stuff happen. We found 1/8" plate steel lying around the shop. Used a 5" hole saw to make our semi- hemispherical contour to match the frame. Cut and shaped our ears, tack welded the ears onto our pre-marked location, verified alignment, marked and drilled our securement bolt holes, and then let loose on the welder.
And then we spent 4 hours extracting all the broken bolts for the exhaust manifold!
One of many exciting jobs over the past couple of months that deserved highlighting.

LS swapping LS's? Client's plow truck spun a main bearing on Friday after an oil cooler line blew while salting. Recieved the truck saturday morning. Found a donor truck and recieved Saturday morning as well. Pulled the engine and repaired what was necassary - oil pan, rear cover, exhaust manifolds & broken studs etc. Pulled the engine from the plow truck and swapped the new, old LS into the plow truck. The plow truck was cleared for pickup Sunday morning and just in time for him to hit the streets for last night's snow storm.

Thank you to all who came in, dedicated and ready to meet a very strict timeframe for completion, to lend a hand with parts runs and manual labor. It would not have been possible to complete such a job in such a short time frame without the help.

Customer states "I swear, I was only using my pinky to shift into park".

We rescued the truck from where it broke down and brought it to the shop to find this!
Turns out, years of use and normal wear and tear contributed to degrading structural integrity. But also the shift shaft arm on the transmission had corroded over the years, swelled up, and in turn caused the PRNDL switch collar to swell with it and created a bunch of resistance when attempting to shift into any gear. The weakest link turned out to be the shift shaft tube and shift tube hold downs on the steering column.
