How low is legally too low for your tires in New Hampshire?

The answer is now clear:

2/32 of an inch.

Under the new law, every tire on the vehicle must have at least 2/32" of tread remaining.

That is the legal minimum. It does not mean 2/32" is necessarily the point we would recommend waiting until, especially with New Hampshire rain, snow, and slush.

Tire tread has a major effect on stopping distance and your ability to move water and snow away from the contact patch.

Your brakes now have a specific legal minimum in New Hampshire.

Brake pads and brake shoes must have at least:

2/32" of friction material

That applies at each wheel.

But there is an important difference between a legal minimum and a good maintenance plan.

Waiting until your brakes reach the absolute minimum leaves very little room for unexpected wear, uneven wear, sticking calipers, or other brake problems.

The goal should be to find and plan for brake wear before it becomes urgent.

No Inspection Sticker ≠ No Safety Standards

New Hampshire no longer requires most passenger vehicles to go through an annual state safety inspection.

But that does not mean vehicle safety laws went away.

New Hampshire now has specific minimum standards for:

• Tire tread depth
• Brake lining thickness
• Steering linkage
• Wheel bearings
• Ball joints

The inspection sticker may be gone, but drivers are still responsible for operating a vehicle that meets New Hampshire's safety laws.

We break down the new rules here:

At Accomplished Auto, we’ll continue checking important safety items during service and documenting what we find so you can make informed decisions.

🔊 What’s That Noise?! 👀🚗

Turn the radio down for a second… is your car trying to tell you something? 😅

Squeaking, grinding, humming, rattling, clunking — new noises usually happen for a reason. And figuring out what’s causing them early can help prevent a smaller issue from turning into a bigger repair.

Maybe you’ve noticed:

🔧 Clunking over bumps
🛞 Humming or growling while driving
🛑 Squealing or grinding when braking
🚗 Clicking while turning
💨 Rattling or louder-than-normal exhaust
👀 Or just a mystery noise you know wasn’t there before

You don’t have to know what it is — that’s our job. 🔍🔧

📅 We have appointments available! If your car has been making a noise you’ve been meaning to get checked, give us a call.

💧 What’s That Spot Under Your Car?

Noticed a new puddle or wet spot where you park? Your vehicle might be trying to tell you something. 👀🚗

Fluid leaks can come from several different systems, and catching them early can sometimes mean the difference between a straightforward repair and a much bigger problem.

Keep an eye out for:

🛢️ Oil spots under your vehicle
🌡️ Coolant leaks or a sweet smell
💧 Fluid collecting underneath after parking
🔥 Burning smells or smoke from under the hood
⚠️ Fluid levels that keep dropping
🚨 New warning lights or overheating

Not sure what’s leaking? That’s what we’re here for. 🔍🔧

📅 We have appointments available! If you’ve noticed a leak — or you’ve just been ignoring that spot in the driveway for a little too long 😅 — give us a call and let’s figure out where it’s coming from.

🚨 Check Engine Light On? Let’s Find Out Why.

That little light can mean a lot of different things — from something relatively simple to an issue you don’t want to ignore.

And pulling a trouble code is only the starting point. Proper diagnostics help determine why that code was set and what your vehicle actually needs. 🔍🔧

If your check engine light is on — or your vehicle has been:

⚠️ Running rough
⛽ Using more fuel than usual
🚗 Hesitating or lacking power
🔊 Making a new or unusual noise
💨 Idling differently
🚨 Showing a warning light you’ve been putting off

Now’s a great time to get it checked out.

📅 We have appointments available! Give us a call and let’s get that light off your dash — the right way.

🔧 Hearing Clunks, Rattles or Feeling Loose Steering?

If your vehicle has started making noises over bumps, feels a little loose on the road, or just doesn’t drive quite like it used to — it may be time to have your suspension and steering checked. 🚗

Watch for:

🔊 Clunking or knocking over bumps
🛞 Loose or wandering steering
〰️ Excessive bouncing
🚗 Pulling or unstable handling
⚠️ Uneven tire wear
↘️ Vehicle sitting lower on one side

New Hampshire roads can be rough on suspension and steering components, and worn parts can affect your handling, tire wear and overall ride.

📅 We have appointments available!

If you’ve been putting off a noise, vibration, handling issue, or something that just doesn’t feel right, now is a great time to get it checked out.

🛞 Are Your Tires Trying to Tell You Something?

Uneven tire wear, pulling to one side, or a steering wheel that doesn’t sit straight can all be signs that your vehicle may need an alignment.

Ignoring alignment issues can cause your tires to wear out faster — and nobody wants to replace a perfectly good set of tires sooner than necessary. 😬

Keep an eye out for:
🔧 Uneven or rapid tire wear
🚗 Vehicle pulling left or right
🛞 Steering wheel sitting off-center
⚠️ Changes in handling or steering feel

If something doesn’t feel right, let us take a look. A proper alignment can help improve tire life, handling, and keep your vehicle driving the way it should.

🔋 Think your battery is fine? Summer heat may have other plans! ☀️🚗

Most people blame cold weather for a dead battery—but did you know that summer heat is actually one of the biggest causes of battery failure?

High temperatures can shorten your battery’s lifespan and weaken its ability to hold a charge. By the time that first chilly New Hampshire morning arrives, your battery could already be on its last leg.

⚠️ Signs your battery may need attention:
🔹 Slow engine cranking
🔹 Dim headlights
🔹 Electrical issues
🔹 Your battery is 3+ years old

Don’t wait until you’re stranded! At Accomplished Auto, we can test your battery and charging system to help catch problems before they leave you stuck.
