Behind the Curtain at the Collision Shop:
Most people do not know their basic rights by law, in Indiana, for choosing their repair shop of choice. Now, let me clarify a couple things up front:
#1. Size of shop does not dictate quality or knowledge. There are great small, medium, and large shops.
#2. There are great Independent, Dealership, and MSO Shops (chains).
1st and foremost, you, the customer should be happy with whatever shop you choose. Do your own research. Ask your friends and neighbors. By Indiana Law, you have the sovereign right to choose your preferred repair shop. Also, by law, the insurance company has the right to give you their spiel or word tracks about their warranties, deals, etc. You have the right to say “No.”
Let me clarify “Warranty”:
In the end, your chosen shop is liable for their quality of work, not the Insurance company. They will make it out that they, the insurance company, are warranting the work. All they will do is push it back on the shop. So, the warranty is only as good as the shop in the end. I can guarantee that a local independent shop will be more flexible in the event of an issue.
