Denie Hiestand sent his 16v Fiat Croma head for his race engine for me to correct. Prior builder installed the cams on the wrong sides as the 16v heads are laid out opposite our typical 8v 124/131 heads. As a result, cam timing and clearances were all off. Cams are aggressive Cat Cams profiles with a much higher lift on the intake side.

While cams were out I did a quick-n-easy leak test with brake cleaner (very thin and penetrating) Front #1 intake valve leaked like a sieve. I removed that valve and found light scoring on contact face. I did a light reface on the valve grinder and a quick lap to the seat. After reassembly, mo more leakage.

Cams were reinstalled on correct sides and valve clearances shimmed (a bitch of a job on a Croma/Integrale type head). Per spec, clearances set to 0.012" intake/0.014' exhaust. Lobe centers spec at 110 deg intake/120 deg exhaust so exact point of peak lift marked, then cams indexed per lobe soec and marked red to red. When head is installed and belt fitted, cams can be degreed to spec with the adjustable pullies.

Mild performance 2L build finished up for Geoff Hansen for his 1979 Fiat Spider 2000.

10:1 pistons, lightened flywheel, balanced rotating assembly. Port work on intake and exhaust runners, smoothing of chambers, 43mm intake/37.5mm exhaust valves, bronze guides, A16 cams. Fuel is a 32/36 DFEV on a single plane manifold.

1.8L engine build for client Terry Keonigs for a 124 Spider.

10:1 cast pistons, intake/exhaust runner porting, polished chambers, bronze guides, and stock valves due to 1800 head. Pittatore 77 cams and Isky springs

Fully balanced rotating assembly with lightened flywheel. Pertronix Ignitor converted dustributor with furnished Mallory plug wires.

Carbs are Italian-built dual 40 DCNF's on an Alquati manifold as sold by Art Bayless back in the 1980's. Though not ideal for a RWD application, they were furnished with the engine by the client. Carbs were rebuilt and rejetted for the build.

Client gets credit for the carb linkage brackets for throttle and cold-start (choke) actuation. Those are well designed and sturdy.

Doing a bit of maintenance on the 1988 Bertone X1/9 that recently sold on BAT for over $40k. This amazing time capsule has only 4,200 miles and aside from the tires and oil filter was exactly as it left the factory.

Unfortunately, being 38 years old, timing belt/tensioner, drive belts, and the engine side coolant hoses needed replacing. Along with the timing belt, front engine cam and crank seals have been replaced.

Brake master cylinder was seeping fluid out the rear so the pedal box assembly needed removal. Brake and clutch master cylinders were replaced while keeping the original reservoir hoses intact. Seller had indicated all hydraulics were "flushed" before sale, but upon bleeding the systems with new master cylinders, this claim was proven false with the thick brown syrup that came out at calipers and clutch slave.

Valve cover gasket was very thin and hard so cover was removed, valve clearances checked and adjusted, and a new old stock cover gasket installed.

Engine oil and filter were changed and thanks to Midwest-Bayless the filter installed is a correct OE Fiat Savara filter (replacing the Ford Motorcraft filter that had been installed by seller)

Unlike any of my typical service work on high-mileage cars, all components on this X1/9 were only ultrasonic cleaned, no media blast cleaning, not even with walnut shell, in order to keep original finish/patina.

Per client's request, all original parts replaced have been saved and will be kept with the car for posterity.

I have repeatedly reported to Facebook as fraudulent content only to be told by FB that the post "do not violate Facebook's community standards"!!!! WTF?

Replacement A/C system install into David Sheffield's 1984 Pininfarina Spider Azura. The original systems based on the R12 refrigerant used compression fittings, not the modern O-ring type connections.

I found a supplier who builds an under-dash evaporator/blower unit with remote switches and a duct tube fed vent for the driver side. New evaporator is the same width as the original but actually lighter and shallower mount.

New compressor is a Sanden 508 that matches the exact mount points as the original unit. Dayco makes an exact copy of the original tensioner pulley for the A/C drive belt.

Condenser coil is a 11x19 Superflow crossflow unit with attached dryer. Matches the exact dimensions as the original condenser.

I custom made the hoses using #10 suction hose, #8 high pressure side hose, and #6 liquid line. I fit in-line service ports, low-side just under the overflow bottle, and the high-side port accessible from underneath under the air box.

Trinary switch and relay used to control the compressor clutch and trigger radiator fan when compressor runs, while also triggered off temp switch in radiator.

New A/C control switches fitted to the switch pod from the original system.
Very tight fit but results are 37 degrees F at the vents (a little higher on driver side due to the duct tube distance from evaporator.)
