🚨 OHIO DRIVERS & INDEPENDENT COLLISION REPAIRERS — PAY ATTENTION TO SB 306
Ohio Senate Bill 306 has passed the Senate and is moving through the Ohio House. This legislation could significantly change the relationship between consumers, independent collision repair facilities, insurers, and dealer-owned repair operations.
Why should you care?
* 🔴 Independent shops and dealer-owned facilities may be treated differently. SB 306 contains an exemption for certain dealer-owned or dealer-operated repair facilities while placing new requirements on independent repairers.
* 🔴 Your collision repairer’s ability to advocate for you could be restricted. The bill limits certain assignments, powers of attorney, and actions a repair facility can take on a customer’s behalf when dealing with an insurance claim.
* 🔴 Consumers could lose an important voice in the claims process. Modern vehicles require complicated OEM procedures, scanning, calibration, electronics, advanced materials, and safety-system knowledge. Your repair professional often understands these requirements better than anyone involved in the claim.
* 🔴 Total-loss storage rules could change. SB 306 places new restrictions on storage-related charges after a vehicle is determined to be a total loss.
* 🔴 Independent collision businesses could face additional legal exposure. The legislation creates additional requirements and potential liability for shops trying to serve their customers.
* 🔴 Fair competition matters. Ohio consumers benefit when independent collision centers and dealer-owned facilities compete under fair and consistent rules.
THIS IS ABOUT MORE THAN BODY SHOPS.
It’s about protecting consumer choice, safe and proper repairs, fair competition, and the ability of your repair facility to advocate for your vehicle.
📣 TAKE ACTION: Contact your Ohio State Representative and tell them you OPPOSE SB 306 and want legislation affecting collision repair to protect consumers while treating independent and dealer-owned repair facilities fairly.
Ohio drivers deserve a choice. Independent repairers deserve a voice. Safe repairs should remain the priority.
