Motorkars® is a 45+ years old family owned and operated business specializing in Volkswagen, Audi and select Porsche vehicles. We employ ASE certified technicians who perform service, repair, restorations and performance modifications on both new and vintage models. We started the business in 1975 in a two-bay Texaco gas station located near the Thurber Village Apartments, just northwest of downto

wn Columbus. We converted to auto service and repairs only, in 1978, when Texaco pulled out of Ohio. At that time, we changed our name to Thurber Village Service. We continued to lease the old Texaco building until the fall of 1985, when we moved into our brand new shop at our current location on King Avenue. We changed our name again, this time to Motorkars, Inc. Motorkars® is a member of the Central Ohio BBB with an A+ rating and has received a business award from Angie's List. Our business hours are 8:30 to 5:30 Monday through Friday. You will find us located southwest of OSU stadium near Grandview Heights at 1020 King Avenue.

Following up on our previous post, since the weather hasn't let up and road conditions are still hazardous, we have decided to close tomorrow.

The safety of our team and our customers is our top priority. We will be reaching out to everyone with appointments to make arrangements/reschedule.

We plan to be back in the shop as soon as the roads are cleared and it’s safe for everyone to travel.

Well, we are officially in a Level 3 snow emergency. Everyone be safe and stay warm. If you need to get ahold of us, please feel free to leave a message or send a text to our main line, and we will get back to you as soon as we can. If something schedule wise changes for tomorrow we will let you know.

In the meantime, enjoy the time with your families and (if you are so inclined) go have fun in the snow!

Cheers to 2026!

Happy New Year to all our wonderful VW, Audi, Porsche, and BMW family! As always, we'd like to thank each of you, as your continued support allows us to continue doing what we love. We hope your holidays were great and your engines were running smoothly over our extended holiday absence.

When starting a small business the statistics show just how tough it is to keep going, much less thrive. Many shops close their doors within the first few years and even more so beyond 10. Honestly, the chances of making it to 50 years are incredibly slim.

But we are doing more than just defying those odds; we're celebrating a MASSIVE achievement! Our family-owned VW/european repair shop has been serving our community for five... DECADES, and that's all thanks to YOU.

This milestone isn't just about us turning wrenches for 50 years. It’s about the loyalty and trust you’ve placed in our family, generation after generation. You could choose anyone, but you keep coming back to us, and that means more than you can imagine.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being the foundation of our business. Here’s to keeping your Volkswagens on the road for many more years to come!

Deck the heads with carbs of Holly... Fa La La La La... we're taking a break!

It's that time of year (already) and we just want to take a moment to give a HUGE thanks to you, our amazing customers! We say it all the time... We wouldn't be able to do what we love without you and your love of your cars. You're the oil that keeps the engine purring.

So, to recharge our batteries and get ready for an even better new year, we'll be closing up shop for a holiday pit stop from Monday December 25th to Monday January 1st. We'll be back on Tuesday January 2nd, refreshed and ready to keep you motoring along into a great 2024.

According to Audi, acceptable oil consumption is approximately 1qt of oil every 1000 miles. Some VW and Audi vehicles have been known to have higher than acceptable oil consumption rates. This is particularly true of their 2.0L TFSI engines, which are found in most models.

Acknowledging the issue of excessive oil consumption in these engines, VW/Audi did eventually offer updated pistons / piston rings to address it and this level of service is something we happily offer.

If you feel you are experiencing this issue, feel free to contact us to discuss steps to remedy your vehicle's issue or explore other paths if the need arises.

Here are a couple of things we at Motorkars suggest you do to stay on top of this issue:
- Check your oil level regularly and add oil as needed taking care to use the proper viscosity and VW/Audi approved specifications
- Avoid short trips and stop-and-go driving if possible (not always an option, we understand)
- Have your vehicle serviced regularly: Regular maintenance, such as oil changes done at shorter intervals (5k miles intervals vs VW/Audi suggested 10k) and mileage based services, can help to reduce oil consumption.

That said, we will be closed the week between Christmas and New Years to give all of us here a chance to catch our breath and enjoy the holidays with our families. We hope you all are able to do the same.
