Veteran’s Day is specifically observed on November 11th for a reason. Originally called Armistice Day, it was meant to not only commemorate the end of World War 1, but to memorialize the exact time the great guns all along the Western Front fell forever silent: It was at 11 am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.

In a world that increasingly opts for convenience over meaning, I’m glad we haven’t moved this day for the sake of an extended weekend. Here’s wishing all veterans the honor and respect they are due…tomorrow, today and every day.
