Each carburetor is dried and wiped with alcohol after run testing. The drain plug is reinstalled, an information tag, zenith rebuild kit proof of purchase and manifold gasket are attached via safety wire to the manifold fl**ge. Finally the carb is wrapped in VCI corrosion inhibiting paper, placed in a ziploc bag and boxed. Each box is tagged with customer and rebuild information.

As some of you know, a few weeks ago my shop compressor went down, literally. Somehow I knocked it over with a skid steer🤦🏻‍♂️ and broke the pump housing. I had a larger 80 gal compressor I bought a few years ago to rebuild so I dragged it out and got to work. Rebuilt the pump head, new bearings in the motor and I wired up a new control box. The result is FrankenPressor! 80 gal+ 60 gal + water separator, coalescing filters and 125 CFM refrigerated air dryer.

Had to rebuild a distributor for my test engine. Decided to chromate it instead of painting so I can easily identify it as part of my test set up…this way I won’t accidentally sell it 😂 kind of miss the gloss black

Today was test day for carburetors headed to customers tomorrow.
After testing the carbs are drained, air dried, carefully packaged and sent back to their owners. Alway a privilege to help people keep these vehicles on the road

The details make the difference!
Having the correct specialty carburetor tools, high quality hand tools and comprehensive shop equipment help ensure an excellent rebuild/restoration.

Throttle and choke plate screws are hand filed flush with the back of the shaft. The screw heads are hand filed slightly flat for a reduced profile. Both practices were once common with custom carburetor builders.
The throttle shafts, choke shafts, plates and linkage are stripped and re-plated and then chromated. This produces the bright and corrosion resistant finish that the parts originally had.
All fasteners are replaced.

Magnetic Particle Inspected
MPI (Magnaflux) is a fast, non-destructive testing method that uses a magnetic field and tiny iron particles to find cracks and flaws on or near the surface of metal.
Why this matters; the components used in military vehicles are heavy duty and used take out/offs are often low mileage with minimal actual wear. Unfortunately time and storage conditions can create problems. Water ingress, freeze thaw cycles and mishandling can cause cracks that are not readily visible to the naked eye. These cracks may even go unnoticed during a test run. Magnetic Particle Inspection helps insure that major components are fundamentally sound prior to a rebuild.

Fully dressed M151 engine that has been fully disassembled, cleaned, inspected and measured to -34 spec. New water pump, gaskets, rings, oil pressure sensor and thermostat. Anything not meeting spec has been replaced. Fresh paint, fluids and filters being tested prior to shipping.

If you are shopping rebuilt or restored military vehicle components ask questions. Ask what a vendor means when they list an item as rebuilt. Was it fully disassembled, cleaned, inspected, measured against government specs? Or was it simply drained given a once over and painted? Were wear items replaced? US parts or import? In house fresh rebuild or surplus government rebuild?
How are the parts cleaned, what type of surface finish, what type of protective finish? New hardware?
Make sure you are getting what you pay for.
