Sent another 914 home with a happy owner today! 1973 914 2.0L back in its owners’ hands after an extensive list. We began with an engine reseal an up-sizing of the top end with 96mm pistons and cylinders (1971cc to 2056cc) and all new top end kit including HD rocker shafts, solid rocker arm spacers and swivel foot adjusters. Chromoly pushrods and new followers were also part of the plan. New flywheel and clutch assembly were installed and the gearbox resealed. All painted engine sheet metal and related components were powder coated. New Pirelli C36 Cinturato tires were also installed. Significant battery tray area rust including the corroded right side engine bar mount was removed/repaired/replaced and the entire area resprayed with epoxy primer and single stage Phoenix Red urethane. A 123 Ignition distributor was installed and the 2.0L throttle body restored with shaft bushings by Bill Sparxwerks LLC. Engine tested and tuned. What more could you ask for than a sorted Phoenix Red 73 2.0L?

It’s always fun to send them home. This 1975 Malaga Red 914 2.0L was here for a long list of enhancements. Most notably I backdated the original impact bumpers to the early style black painted bumper. New EMPI front and rear bumpers refinished by Ken Dawson. I also backdated the exhaust system with a new set of SSI EXHAUST heat exchangers and a new DANSK ORIGINAL 2.0L muffler that was immediately modified to bad ass with dual outlets for a serious exhaust note. Restored heater components was also part of the plan. A new set of HELLA driving lights were added as well. The brake calipers were all exchanged for a newly-restored set from PMB Performance. Fuel system and charcoal system were renewed this round. I installed a set of Safety Restore re-webbed seat belt retractors. Additional sorting included new window and top seals from 914Rubber and a complete matching lock set including door handles from Curt at 914 Locks. Thanks Mike Prstojevich for trusting us with his new 914.

One ‘73 Phoenix Red 2.0L back up and running now time for the next one! After an unanticipated rust repair detour, this local 1973 914 has it’s engine back in and doing the thing. The next one up is an early ‘73 (914S) with the windscreen vinyl trim. Reviving after a long period of storage.

While some of you are hanging out at car week I’m over here in da’ streets bustin’ that rust! Fixing a pretty good cover up job in our ‘73 2.0L. What ‘Hell Hole’ rust? 😏 Right. Back to the way it should be in not too long.

Right when you think it’s time to stab the fresh engine in, you need to pivot to rust repair. 914s are the gift that keeps on giving. This Phoenix Red 1973 914 2.0L is newly acquired and the owner elected to enlarge the engine to 2056cc while we did a full engine reseal, gearbox reseal and full refresh of the engine tin and associated parts. Now we discover rot in the lower right side engine mount which has led to damage to the outer skin of the longitudinal. No choice but to repair it back to new.
