Restoration and preservation of the mid-engine Porsche 914 and 914-6.

All in a weeks work: send a customer back home to N. Lake Tahoe on Monday with their new 2056 engine in a gorgeous Olympic Blue ‘74. Disassemble a customer’s early 5-lug suspension and prepare for powder coating and zinc plate of the hardware, also prep their engine hardware for the same process. Assemble The South Jersey Project’s front trunk complete with full detail of all ventilation components. We are leaving the tank as-is for those patina feels. Lastly removing the engine and gearbox of a local 73 Phoenix Red 2.0L for full cleaning/degreasing and resealing of engine and gearbox. Bumping up to 2056 while we are there with all the valve train goodies.

This little gem leaves for home Monday. Brand new 2056cc Type 4 going back to North Lake Tahoe. Driving all the way from Oregon to Nevada. Much fun to be had!

A few glamour shots of The South Jersey Project going back together. To recap: this is a 1976 (10/75 build) 914 2.0L converted to six cylinder power many years ago with a 3.6L 993 engine (Bosch DME) with 915 gearbox, Wevo shift conversion, 911 Carrera front suspension with 25mm anti-sway bar and Elephant Racing 930-style 4 piston calipers on all four corners. Narrow body. Sixteen inch Fuchs. In our care we have performed numerous rust repairs, added a 914-6 GT style oil cooler, added front anti-sway bar reinforcement, re-located all engine management electronics to the passenger side of the cabin, disassembled and prepared the car for paint. The chassis has been rotisserie-restored by and painted in 2-stage (Sikkens) L80E Light Ivory with a textured (SEM) coating on the under carriage. All suspension components have been powder coated and all wear parts renewed or replaced. All hardware had been zinc-plated. We have installed a 23mm brake master cylinder, new brake lines (rigid and flexible) and will selectively replace seals based on wear upon reassembly. This is not a full restoration but very close. Proud to say we are keeping the “big rubber bumpers” and the front side marker lamps. This is truly a driver’s car built for The Driver. 🫡

Rust repair milestone achieved on the 1970 914-6. Right side longitudinal re-construction is complete. Next step is replacing the right side floor before I move to the inner and outer right side firewall sections. I’m on the downhill side of this major repair. #9146

Digging back into The South Jersey Project after its return from paint and body. Reinstallation of the engine lid and the rear trunk lid today. I hate that the ‘S’ on the engine lid looks crooked in these photos. I swear it isn’t!
