Summer road trips are one of the best parts of this season. Breakdowns, on the other hand, are not. The truth is, most roadside problems can be prevented with a quick pre-trip inspection.

Here's what we look at before a long drive:
πŸ‘‰ Tires: Check pressure and tread depth. Underinflated tires in summer heat are a blowout risk, especially at highway speeds.
πŸ‘‰ Fluids: Coolant, oil, brake fluid, power steering, and windshield washer. Low fluid levels can turn a hot day into an emergency.
πŸ‘‰ Brakes: If you've noticed any squealing, grinding, or soft pedal feel, this isn't the trip to delay it.
πŸ‘‰ Belts and hoses: Heat accelerates wear on rubber components. A cracked hose on the interstate is no fun.
πŸ‘‰ Battery: As we covered last week, summer heat is hard on batteries. A quick test before you leave can save you a lot of headaches.
You don't need to do all of this yourself. Bring it in, and we'll run through everything in one visit.

That wraps up our Summer Car Care Series. We hope Abe and Andy have made this a little easier to think about, and a little harder to ignore. As always, we're just a phone call away.

Have a great summer on the road. Drive safe.

Most people think winter is the enemy of car batteries. Cold weather gets all the blame. But heat is the bigger threat because it speeds up chemical reactions inside the battery, accelerating internal wear and shortening its life.

The challenge with batteries is that they rarely give you a dramatic warning. One morning, the car starts fine. The next morning, it doesn't. By the time you realize there's a problem, you're already stuck.

If your battery is three years old or more, it's worth getting it tested before summer really cranks up. We can check its current charge level and, more importantly, its cold cranking amps, which indicate how much power it can deliver when you need it.

A battery test takes about ten minutes. It's free when you come in. And if the battery is on its way out, we'd much rather tell you now than have you find out in a parking lot.

Next week is the series finale, Tip 4 of 4, and Abe and Andy will bring everything together with a full road trip readiness rundown.

Want to get your battery checked? Give us a call and we'll fit you in.

If your A/C is blowing lukewarm air instead of cold, or you're cranking it all the way up just to stay comfortable, there's a good chance your refrigerant is low. That's the most common culprit, and one of the easier fixes.

Here's something a lot of people don't realize: when your A/C system is undercharged, the compressor has to work significantly harder to try to keep up. That puts extra load on your engine, which burns more fuel. So a struggling A/C isn't just uncomfortable, it's actually costing you at the pump too.

An A/C recharge restores the refrigerant level and gets your system running efficiently again. While we're at it, we'll also check for leaks, inspect the compressor, and make sure everything is operating the way it should be heading into the hottest stretch of summer.

Don't wait until you're sweltering at a red light to deal with this one.

Next week in Tip 3 of 4, Abe and Andy are talking batteries, and why summer heat is actually harder on them than winter cold.

Ready to stop sweating? Give us a call, and we'll get your A/C sorted out.

07/06/2026

Summer in Colorado Springs is no joke, and neither is what the heat does to your cooling system. Your engine runs hot by design, but it relies on coolant to keep temperatures in check. When that coolant gets old, it loses its ability to do that job.
Over time, coolant breaks down and becomes acidic. Acidic coolant doesn't just stop protecting, it starts attacking. It can corrode your radiator, water pump, and hoses from the inside out. By the time you're on the side of the road with steam coming from under the hood, the damage is already done.

A coolant flush is one of the simplest and most overlooked services on your maintenance schedule. Fresh coolant protects your engine and keeps its temperature right where it should be, even on the hottest days of the year.

Worth knowing: if your coolant looks rusty, murky, or anything other than its original color, that's a sign it's past due.

Next week in Tip 2 of 4, Honest Abe and Accurate Andy are talking A/C, and explaining why your air conditioning might be working harder than it should right now.

Questions about your cooling system? Give us a call! We're happy to take a look.

We have made it to the finale, and we are finishing where the rubber literally meets the road. Your tires are the only part of your vehicle in constant contact with the pavement, which means their design has a direct, measurable impact on your fuel efficiency.

Low rolling resistance tires are engineered specifically to minimize the energy required to keep your car moving forward. Less energy wasted on friction means less fuel burned to maintain speed. The difference is real, and it shows up at the pump.

Equally important, and completely free, is keeping your tires properly inflated. Underinflated tires increase the contact patch with the road, which increases rolling resistance and drags down fuel economy. Your recommended PSI is printed on a sticker inside your driver's door. It takes thirty seconds to check.

When it is time for new tires, ask your service advisor about low rolling resistance options that fit your vehicle and driving habits. It is a purchase that pays you back every time you fill up.

That wraps up our 5-part Fuel Economy Series. We hope Honest Abe and Accurate Andy made these tips a little more memorable and a little more fun. As always, we are just a phone call away.

Thanks for following along. Honest answers and accurate advice, every time.

Here is something that surprises a lot of people: wheel alignment is not just about keeping your car driving straight. When your alignment is off, even slightly, your tires are dragging at a subtle angle every mile you drive. Your engine has to constantly overcome that resistance, and that is wasted energy on every single trip.

The effects compound over time. Misalignment accelerates uneven tire wear, which shortens tire life and adds its own rolling resistance issues to the mix. It can also cause your vehicle to pull to one side, meaning you are making constant small steering corrections without even realizing it.

The good news: a wheel alignment is one of the quickest, most affordable services we offer, and it brings everything back to factory specification. Most vehicles should be checked once a year, or any time you have had a close encounter with a significant pothole, curb, or after suspension work.

The payoff is real. Properly aligned wheels reduce rolling resistance, improve tire longevity, and contribute directly to better fuel economy over time.

Next week is the series finale. Tip 5 of 5 has Honest Abe and Accurate Andy wrapping things up where the rubber literally meets the road.

Due for an alignment? Give us a call. We will get you squared away. (Literally.)

06/17/2026

Most drivers have never heard of induction and decarbonization service, and that is exactly why it is worth talking about. Over time, carbon deposits build up inside your engine's intake system: on the valves, in the throttle body, along the intake manifold. It is completely normal, but left unaddressed, that buildup restricts airflow, disrupts fuel delivery, and forces your engine to work harder than it should.

The result? Reduced power, a rougher idle, and worse fuel economy. Your engine ends up running with one hand tied behind its back.

An induction and decarbonization service uses specialized cleaning solutions to clear that buildup and restore proper airflow. Many drivers notice improved throttle response and a smoother idle almost immediately.

Worth knowing: direct-injection engines, which are increasingly common in modern vehicles, are especially prone to carbon buildup compared to older designs. Ask your service advisor whether your vehicle and mileage put you in that category.

Next week in Tip 4 of 5, Honest Abe and Accurate Andy are stepping outside the engine entirely to talk about how your wheel alignment could be working against your fuel economy on every single mile you drive.

Curious if your vehicle is due for this service? Give us a call. We are happy to take a look.

06/11/2026

Spark plugs are about the size of your thumb, but don't let that fool you. Every time your engine fires, a spark plug is responsible for igniting the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder. When plugs are worn or fouled, that ignition becomes inconsistent. Incomplete combustion means wasted fuel, and your MPG quietly drops while your engine works harder than it should.

The good news? A tune-up is one of the most straightforward services we offer. Fresh spark plugs restore clean, efficient combustion and can make a noticeable difference in fuel economy, especially on higher-mileage vehicles where the plugs haven't been swapped in a while.

A full tune-up also gives your service advisor a chance to inspect the parts that work alongside your plugs: air filters, ignition wires, and other components that all play a role in keeping your engine running at peak efficiency.

Think of your engine as a very precise air-and-fuel management system. Keeping its components fresh is one of the best things you can do for long-term efficiency and your wallet.

Next week in Tip 3 of 5, Honest Abe and Accurate Andy are covering induction and decarbonization service, the one where your engine finally gets to breathe again.

Questions about a tune-up? Give us a call. We'll walk you through exactly what's involved.
