Want to thank you Uncle Mike for your sacrifice. You gave your life at 9:44 AM, Sept. 11th, 1943, off the coast of Italy. I found out you were providing artillery support for many soldiers who were overrun by enemy at Salerno including the 1ST Ranger Battalion, (Darby's Rangers) when your #3 turret was hit by a Fritz missile on the USS SAVANNAH,
from the Luftwaffe, I met one of those brave men from the 1st Inf. One of only seven that lived of over 760 in the battalion. I can never imagine the hell you all were going through. You were so brave, I am so looking forward to meet you in Heaven.
