🚧 Trail closure alert! Starting Monday, Oct. 12, the Greenway Trail on the west side of Monument Creek in Monument Valley Park will close for up to four weeks as crews continue work on the historic Cache La Poudre/Mesa Road Bridge.

The trail on the east side of the creek will remain open, with a short pedestrian detour in place. Trail users can cross Monument Creek at the Uintah Street bridge or the pedestrian bridge near the south end of the park.

Thanks for your patience as we work to preserve this 90-year-old bridge and improve safety and access!

Construction on the historic Cache La Poudre/Mesa Road Bridge requires a temporary closure of the Greenway Trail on the west side of Monument Creek for up to four weeks beginning Monday, Oct. 12. The closure is necessary so crews can use a crane to lift concrete deck panels into place and perform other heavy construction.

Closure barricades will be placed on the trail at the Duck Pond north of the Cache/Mesa bridge and at the pickleball courts south of the bridge.

Guidance for park and trail users:

➡️ Southbound trail users should cross Monument Creek via the Uintah Street bridge to use the eastern leg of Greenway Trail.

➡️ Note that the Greenway Trail on the east side of Monument Creek will remain open during work, with the same short pedestrian detour currently in place.

➡️ Northbound trail users should cross Monument Creek at the pedestrian bridge toward the south end of the park to use the eastern leg of the trail.

➡️ Visitors to the pickleball courts may enter the park by motor vehicle via Glen Avenue and use the parking lot west of the bridge or approach on the trail from the south.

➡️ Visitors to the Horticultural Art Society Demonstration Gardens may enter the park by motor vehicle via Glen Avenue. A small limited-use portion of the trail will remain open near those destinations.

Construction started in April to replace the bridge deck and maintain structural elements on the 90-year-old bridge. Other work includes improvement of drainage and bridge lighting, all while refurbishing the bridge’s Art Deco features. The focus of the project is to enhance access and safety of the historic bridge.

Aspen Acres Fire update, 10/2/2026
Size: 102,007 acres
Location: 10 miles northwest of Rye, CO
Cause: Human-Caused
Containment: 82%

Fire behavior: The fire area received significant rainfall this week, which has helped moderate fire activity. However, the recent rainfall has led to flooding and debris movement in and around drainages and low lying areas.

Tactics: Updated mapping shows a minor increase of approximately three acres. Forest Service firefighters are continuing to remove hazard trees along roadways to improve firefighter and public safety. Burned areas are more prone to flooding and debris flow after rain—use extra caution when traveling or recreating nearby.

Smoke: For more information on how smoke may impact your health, please visit https://cdphe.colorado.gov/apcd/wildfire-smoke-and-health.

Closures: The Aspen Acres Fire Closure Order remains in effect. To read the full order please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/r02/psicc/alerts/aspen-acres-fire-area-closure-sept-1-2026-dec-31-2026.

Today thru Thursday:

If current forecast model trends hold, the higher elevations of the central and southern mountains south of I-70, particularly the San Juans, Sangre de Cristos, Wet Mountains, and Pikes Peak, mainly above 11,000 feet, could pick up 10 to 18 inches of snow, with localized totals exceeding 2 feet.

Real inches. Not man inches.

Could see some wet snow on I-70 mainly above 9000 feet Tuesday night into Wednesday between Vail Pass and Silver Plume as moisture from Polo gets wrapped into our low pressure system. I’ll keep you updated k thanks bye!
