It’s NOT always the trailer’s fault!

If your truck keeps throwing a “Check Trailer Wiring” or trailer brake warning, don’t automatically blame the trailer. Sometimes the truck and trailer just don’t play nice together.

Cleaning and inspecting the hubs before repacking the wheel bearings. Don’t just throw fresh grease in and call it good—clean everything up and inspect the bearings, races and hub for wear or damage first.

This little spot in this wire caused a LOT of problems! 😳

The trailer brakes would work sometimes, then the truck would throw a “Service Trailer Brake System” message. After some digging, we found this small spot of exposed wire tucked up tight in the frame rail.

A small spot of exposed wire can cause a lot of weird electrical issues.

This customer had been dealing with his trailer brakes not working properly and his truck intermittently displaying a “Service Trailer Brake System” message. It took us a little while to track down because the damaged spot was tucked up tight inside the frame rail.

One tiny spot of exposed wire was enough to cause the whole problem.

Trailer wiring can be frustrating, but taking the time to protect your wiring, keep it secured, and check for rubbing can save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Replaced the spring hangers on this triple-axle dump trailer with slipper springs. The spring stop had worn down far enough that it was no longer properly stopping/supporting the spring. We cut the worn hangers off and welded new ones in place.

Another commonly missed wear item is the bushings in your leaf springs and equalizers.

These bushings wear out over time, and once they wear through, the bolts start wearing directly into the equalizer and the spring eye. If it goes too long, you can end up damaging the equalizer or wearing the eye of the leaf spring out completely.

Make sure you’re checking those bushings regularly and replacing them when they’re worn. A cheap bushing can save you from replacing a lot more expensive suspension parts later!
