πŸ”οΈ Planning a Yellowstone trip this August? Here is what you actually need to know before you go.

August is one of the best months of the year to visit Yellowstone. Long sunny days, every road and trail open, bison herds in full rut, wildflowers in the high meadows, and the Perseid meteor shower peaking right here near the East Gate on August 11 and 12.

It is also one of the busiest months of the year. Parking lots fill by 9am. Bison jams can stop traffic for an hour. And if you do not have a plan you can spend half your day in the car.

So we wrote a complete guide to help you make the most of it.
Here is what is inside:
🌀️ What Yellowstone August weather actually feels like day to day
🦬 What wildlife you are likely to see and where to find them
πŸš— How to beat the Yellowstone crowds in August
πŸŒ‹ The best spots to prioritize and when to visit each one
🌠 Why August 11 and 12 are two of the most exciting nights of the year near Yellowstone
πŸ•οΈ Why the East Gate near Cody is the smartest basecamp choice in August

And if you are still looking for a place to stay, Old Faithful RV Park has full hookup RV sites and cozy cabins just 32 miles from the East Gate. August is our busiest month so do not wait too long.

🦌 What is your favorite wildlife sighting you have ever had near Yellowstone?

A mama elk and her calf by the lake. A grizzly bear in the meadow at sunrise. A wolf pack crossing the road in Lamar Valley. A bison jam that made you 45 minutes late for everything and you did not even care.

We want to hear yours. Drop it in the comments below! πŸ‘‡

We ask because out here on the North Fork of the Shoshone River wildlife sightings start before you even reach the park gate. The drive up the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway to the East Gate is 32 miles of pure Wyoming wilderness. Pronghorn, bighorn sheep, eagles, and deer are all regular sightings before you even pay the entrance fee.

Tell us your best story. We will be reading every single one. πŸ”οΈπŸ¦¬πŸ»

🌌 Have you ever seen the Milky Way with your own eyes? Not a photo. The real thing.

Most people living near cities never get to experience a truly dark sky. The kind where the Milky Way stretches from one horizon to the other so bright it almost does not look real. The kind where you walk outside and just stop in your tracks.

Out here on the North Fork of the Shoshone River that is just a regular Tuesday night.
Old Faithful RV Park sits in a Bortle Class 1 sky. That is the darkest rating on the scale. No city glow. No light pollution. Just thousands of stars blazing overhead every single clear night.

Drop a yes or no in the comments and tell us where you saw it! πŸ‘‡ And if you have never seen it we would love to be the place that changes that. 🌠

And here is some exciting news. The Perseid meteor shower peaks right here on August 11 and 12. Up to 100 meteors per hour streaking across that same sky. We just wrote a complete guide to help you make the most of it.
