The same attention to detail goes under the car. Here is the frame and some of the suspension parts that were body worked as well as the rear end housing. Because the rear end housing was original to this car, a lot of effort went into restoring it.

Prior to final fabrication the sheet metal is mockup to the body to ensure we have proper panel gaps and alignment.

After the NOS quarter panels were welded into place, the roof to quarter seams were leaded in as they were originally.

Brewster used a Gyspot welder to duplicate the original factory spot welds. A few sections were buttwelded in, saving as much of the original floors as possible, right down to the dropdown with original stamping.

At some point the trunk floor had been cut out to allow for a fuel cell. The owners were able to source an original trunk floor to section in. A few small modifications were made to make the replacement trunk floor section period correct for this build date.

The floors were steam cleaned to peal back the years and give us a look at what the floors looked like the day it rolled off the assembly line. Typically Chevelles have a layer of grey primer, this one is an later build date than we are used to and it came from off of the line in Atlanta. This car had some surprises in store for us.

Congrats to Jamie and the Schmidt’s Race car for a great showing at the Piston Power Show in Cleveland this weekend. The Schmidt’s car was recognized by both the NOCCA and the ISCA !
