# # **Running the wrong gas could be costing you power—and money.**

Most people just grab **87 octane** without thinking.

But here’s the truth:

Not all engines are built for it.

Higher-performance engines (like many V8s, turbos, and newer direct-injection motors) are designed for **higher octane fuel (91–93)**.

Why?

Because octane prevents **engine knock**—which is uncontrolled combustion that can damage your engine over time.

Using 87 in an engine that calls for 93 can cause:

⚠️ Loss of power
⚠️ Reduced fuel efficiency
⚠️ Engine knocking
⚠️ Long-term wear

Modern cars *can* adjust…

but that doesn’t mean they *should have to*.

You’re basically telling your engine:
