Tech Tuesday: Meet Dewy Farris – The OG of Smith Automotive!

Dewy Farris has been with Smith Automotive since day one—15 years ago! As the original team member, he started out as a technician before moving to the front of the shop, where he now serves as a trusted Service Advisor.

Born and raised right here in Cleveland, Dewy is the proud dad of two grown children, Jacob and Kirsten, and father-in-law to Tim. If you’ve spent any time around him, you know he’s always been the class clown. Whether he’s pulling a harmless prank, sharing the latest hilarious meme, or torturing coworkers with “The Best Christmas Song that ever Existed” (year-round, of course), Dewy keeps everyone laughing.

When he’s not at the shop, you’ll likely find him in the great outdoors. He loves hiking, camping, listening to the river, and relaxing by a campfire. He’s also a fan of car shows and drag racing. His dream ride? A 1987 Buick Grand National—a classic that’s almost as legendary as Dewy himself.

We’re grateful for the dedication, experience, and sense of humor he brings to Smith Automotive every day. Thanks for 15 years of hard work, laughs, and keeping us all on our toes, Dewy!

Meet Our Amazing Office Manager, Candy Rakestraw!

While Candy may not be a technician, many would argue she’s the backbone of the shop. She keeps everything running smoothly, efficiently, and (somehow) manages to keep the rest of us organized. And trust us—that’s no small task! It takes a special kind of talent to keep this crew in line, and Candy has been doing just that for the past seven years.

Candy isn’t just the office manager—she’s the real boss around here and is also Jonathan’s sister-in-law, the younger sister of his wife, Heather.

Candy lives on her farm in McDonald with her husband, Tim, and son, Logan. Their household also includes Charlie, her loyal dog and self-appointed head of security; two cats, Clarice and Mama; and a flock of chickens that she proudly considers her babies.
A resident of the Cleveland area for most of her life, Candy spent more than 20 years working in the veterinary field before deciding it was time for a change. Even so, she hasn’t completely left animal care behind—you can still find her helping out on Wednesdays at the Equine Medical Center.

When she’s not keeping the shop running or caring for animals, Candy enjoys birdwatching, spending time with her family (including the feathered members), crafting, and gardening. We’re grateful to have her on our team and appreciate everything she does to keep us all on track! 🚗🐔🌻

Tech Tuesday!
We’re kicking off a new series to introduce you to our outstanding team at Smith Automotive. And who better to start with than our founder, owner, fearless leader, and CEO, Mr. Jonathan Smith?
Fifteen years ago this month, Jonathan took the leap and launched Smith Automotive. As an ASE Master Technician with both Diesel and Specialist certifications, he brings serious expertise to the shop. His favorite vehicles to work on? Hondas—hardly a shock, since he spent more than 12 years at Honda, starting as an oil-and-lube tech and steadily working his way up to Master Technician.
Jonathan has been married to Heather for 21 years and their blended family includes six children and two grandchildren. At home, he’s the pet “tolerator”of Maverick the golden retriever and Ellie the Persian. And we won’t talk about the birds, stray cats, and raccoon that his wife feeds. 😂
A dedicated partner of Christway Church, Jonathan serves on the mission team to Bangladesh and helps his wife teach the first-grade class on Sundays. Jonathan was born in Chattanooga and raised in Ellijay, Georgia (where his family still lives). He’s also the starter and leader of a local Trail Life troop of over 80 young men! In his free time, you’ll likely find him camping, fishing, or enjoying a spirited game of no mercy Airsoft.
