A Friendly Reminder to Fellow Metal Polishers

Folks, please be mindful when sanding heavily oxidized aluminum wheels, especially wheels that haven't been polished or properly maintained in many years.

We all want to deliver the best possible finish for our customers. Sanding away years of oxidation, pitting, and damage can make an incredible difference in the final appearance. However, it's important to remember that appearance should never come before safety.

The manufacturer stamps on these wheels are there for a reason. These wheels are engineered with specific load ratings and material thicknesses. Aggressive sanding or removing excessive material in an attempt to eliminate deep pitting and imperfections can potentially compromise the integrity of the wheel.

A mirror finish isn't worth weakening a wheel.

I've been hearing about several instances of aluminum wheels developing cracks after being polished. That doesn't necessarily mean polishing caused every failure—there can be many contributing factors—but excessive material removal is something we as polishers need to take seriously.

At some point, we have to recognize when a wheel is too far gone to safely chase every pit, scratch, or imperfection. Sometimes leaving a few imperfections is the responsible choice.

Remember, it's not only our customer driving that truck. It could be their employee behind the wheel, another truck beside them, or a family traveling down the highway.

No shine is worth compromising someone's safety.

Please be mindful of how much material you're removing, particularly on older, heavily oxidized or deeply pitted wheels. When in doubt, don't chase perfection at the expense of the wheel's integrity.

Always be on the lookout for cracks while sanding, cutting or visually inspecting and report the crack to your customer immediately prior to fully processing that wheel.

This isn't meant to criticize anyone—just a friendly reminder from one polisher to another

Folks we are truly blessed by the turn out we had at Smoky Mountain Big Rig Showdown .. We knew about 4 trucks ahead of time and then the 5th popped up and the 6th had hit us up Friday and said they were coming. This is the largest truck count we have ever had in a single show and we want to thank each and every one of y'all.. You folks are the ones that keep us moving Thank you all - Keep moving forward the sky is the limit for you folks..
