Before worrying about a check-engine light after filling your tank, start with something simple: check the fuel cap.
On vehicles equipped with a removable cap, a loose, damaged or missing cap may allow fuel vapors to escape and can trigger the vehicle’s emissions-monitoring system. Make sure it is properly secured after refueling.
If the warning light remains on, have the vehicle diagnosed rather than assuming the cap is the only possible cause.
