What you doing today, John?

Swapping the transmission in this 2017 Silverado. When we go this route, we want the right parts going in. This Jasper unit comes with a billet cover on the converter, and that's not an option with Jasper, it's just how they build it. That cover is one of the highest failure points on the GM line, so it matters. They've also addressed some of the known issues with the 6L80.

Right now the exhaust is out and we're about ready to pull the transmission.

Your spark plugs can tell you what is going on inside the engine.

John pulled the plug from the cylinder that was misfiring, and the burnt electrode showed it was running lean. That means too much air for the fuel, and it burns extra hot in the combustion chamber. It also showed us the plugs were overdue.

A couple of things to know before you install new ones:
🔧 Check the porcelain for cracks. Plugs can get bounced around in shipping and damaged right out of the box.
🔧 Ridium plugs usually should not be gapped. Adjusting it can compromise the iridium coating.

A misfire code is a starting point, not the whole answer. That is why we look at the real cause instead of just throwing parts at it.

Doing a tune up on this 2004 Nissan Frontier and came across what looks like the original fuel filter.

Take a look at the fuel coming out of it. That is not the color it should be. John was showing exactly why we replace these instead of leaving them and hoping for the best.

A fuel filter is a small part with a big job. When it gets clogged or dirty, it can lead to hard starts, hesitation, and other drivability issues down the road.

Pedal pulsation was the complaint, but the real story was in the pads.

This 2019 Highlander came in with plenty of pad left on the driver's side. The passenger side inner pad was thin and tapered from thick to thin. That taper usually points to stiff, stuck caliper pins. The pads weren't old, they just weren't moving the way they should, so they wore unevenly.

It's an easy thing to overlook on a brake job, and it can cost you pads before their time.
That's why on every brake job at JennJohn's, we clean the caliper and all the channels, install new hardware, and address the caliper pins. Every time.

What you doing today, John? A full tune up on this Nissan today. We're replacing plugs, wires, cap, rotor, PCV valve, and fuel filter. It's routine work, but it's the kind of maintenance that keeps drivability issues from creeping in down the road.

Gas prices got you feeling it at the pump? ⛽

Before you blame your driving habits, a few things on your vehicle could be quietly costing you fuel mileage:
🔧 Low tire pressure
🔧 Alignment that is off
🔧 Worn spark plugs
🔧 Dragging brakes
🔧 A check engine light that has been on for a while

Any of these can make your vehicle work harder than it should. A code alone does not tell the whole story, so we take the time to inspect, test, and explain what we find. No throwing parts at it and hoping for the best.
