The Pontiac Aztek may go down as one of the most hated vehicles ever made… but honestly, it was weirdly ahead of its time. Camping package, removable cooler, fold-flat interior, AWD, tons of cargo space… it basically predicted modern crossovers before people were ready for them.

Unfortunately, it also looked like a melted GameCube on wheels. 😅

A few photos of the various stages of a headlight restoration we worked on today.

Most vehicles today utilize plastic housings for headlights instead of glass. As they age, they can become cloudy. The cloudiness of these housings is attributed to oxidation, which occurs as UV rays from the sun and heat break down the porous plastic over time. This degradation results in a layer of oxidation, which causes the cloudiness.

During the headlight restoration process, a rotary tool and sanding discs are employed to remove the oxidized layer. Subsequently, a polishing wheel and polishing compound are utilized to restore the glass-like brilliance to the headlights, thereby enhancing nighttime visibility.

Replacing cloudy headlights can be costly, ranging from $500 to over $1500, depending on the vehicle. Headlight restoration offers a more economical alternative with comparable results.

A few smaller jobs today, the fuel pump on this Mazda Miata was our fun though. I know I'm not under the dash, and it's not a Ford Focus but, I think it's small enough to be a good substitute.
