We operate a fleet of US Coast Guard inspected jet boats under (3) separate US Forest Service special use permit's in the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area and 2 Speci

al Use Permits on the Clearwater River. We own 2 facilities on the Snake River to serve you, our event venue Heller Bar Lodge located at the confluence of the Snake and Grande Ronde Rivers, and our remote overnight wilderness camp including a main lodge and 23 private cabins- Copper Creek Lodge is only accessible by boat and is located in the Wallowa Whitman National Forest.

I have ABSOLUTELY NO TOP FRONT TEETH! Instead, I munch my way through the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area with a more sophisticated eating arrangement. On the roof of my mouth is a hard leathery gum tissue called a dental pad. I use it with my lower front teeth to stuff my mouth with as much grass as it can possibly hold. Then I rely entirely on my sharp back molars to finish my meal. That's the quintessential dinner time Hells Canyon style for me!

THE RECIPE FOR STONE PILLARS
*The Melt: A thick pool of dark lava sits still.
*The Chill: The top and bottom touch cool air and start to lose heat.
*The Pull: As the rock cools, it wants to take up less space.
*The Split: Just like dry mud cracks in the sun, the rock pulls apart.
The Math of Nature: Cracks spread from cool spots at equal angles of 120 degrees. This makes perfect hexagons.
*The Deep Grow: Cracks march straight down into the lava bed. This builds long pillars that can stretch for many feet.

Did you know...The 2026 U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree was selected on the Salmon River Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service - Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests in Idaho. It’s an impressive 80-foot-tall grand fir that will stand on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. the tree is literally representing Idaho and the Nez Perce-Clearwater forests to the entire country during the nation's 250th anniversary year. 80 FEET OF IDAHO HEADED FOR THE CAPITOL! Gerald J. "Tuck" Tucker worked for the National Forest Service for 38 years, 37 of those years as a District Ranger. He retired in 1962 after a career marked by complete respect and dedication to the pioneers of Hells Canyon, an author and a poet.
