On this day in automotive history, June 3rd, 1864 Ransom E. Olds was born in Geneva, Ohio. It was said that Olds built his first gasoline powered car in 1896.

Research will show you that the Oldsmobile Curved Dash vehicle was the first ever mass produced vehicle even though the Model T gets the majority of the credit due to major advances in the production methods.

General Motors eventually bought Oldsmobile and discontinued the brand in 2014. Ransom E. Olds at one point left the Olds Motor Works and again started his own brand to be called REO Motor Car Company. Known for its REO Speedwagon.
