“Oil Can” Join me in this challenging advanced dent repair, utilizing all the techniques, all the equipment, and all the hard lessons learned over many years.

An “oil can” in auto body lingo is a situation where sheet metal becomes fatigued after being dented, popping in and out like a soda pop can or an oil can back in the day. This is not an ideal scenario as it will leave either a mound or a dent, but it will not remain flat.

Up until just a few short years ago, this was not repairable with paintless methods. But once again with the advancement of equipment and techniques, we are able to save more vehicles from being repainted.

This is not your average Paintless dent removal. This is Advanced Paintless Dent Repair by Dent Evo. And the results are on par with traditional body and paint repair, only better because despite some existing minor scratches, we were able to preserve the original, factory paint and condition of the car for our customer.

“Small, But Mighty”
A complex ding removal on this Porsche 911.


This deep, 2 inch ding on the wheel arch/body line was probably caused by the typical swinging car door.

While it may be small, this type of door ding is the epitome of a complex dent.

Why?

Because deep dents of any size are tough to move back out cleanly, that is without leaving it all bumpy and poked up looking (or even harming the paint).

But couple this with it being located on a body line, and even worse, completely obstructed by a second layer of metal right behind the dent.

I was able to gain access by sliding in a thin tool, called a whale tail, from the tail light section of the vehicle.

There was a minor existing blemish in the paint that I was able to improve upon with a good “wet sand and polish”.

“On The Edge”

This Mercedes GLA incurred some damage along the leading edge of the driver side front door.

Starting the repair with the door on the vehicle, allowed me to power out the edge back to its general shape.

Next, removing the door and working it while secured to my table, allowed me to refine the repair to a significant level of improvement.

The “Seam Sealer” that was carefully cut back with a razor blade was then glued back into place and touched up with matching paint along the inside edge of the door. Followed by proper installation of the interior trim and door assembly.

Ultimately, this Mercedes was saved from the body shop and the repair was completed that afternoon.

“Tree Hugger”

No trees were harmed in this endeavor… in fact, this beautiful cypress (I think that’s what it is), was a tremendous help in making this repair possible and keeping it Paintless.

👉My client had walked out to her car to see that it had been backed into. The mischief maker did not leave a note, but her comprehensive insurance covered the cost.

Adamant about retaining the original factory paint on her car, avoiding diminished value, and having the repair done in one day, in her driveway, she entrusted me to make the problem go bye-bye.

⚒️Modern, thin gauge steel can fatigue easily if not moved methodically. Using glue PDR “tension pulls” both laterally and then perpendicularly assisted by my green friend (the tree), allowed me to retain the general shape of the panel/body line, cleanly and effectively.

Fine-tuning the rest of the repair with the door removed and secured to my table allowed me to take the repair to the next level, producing results that are closest to pre-loss, original condition than any other method available, including traditional body shop (repaint) methods.

Sometimes You Just Gotta…

I opted to remove the door on this one.

Glue Pull was not an option IMO.

Though my client kept it in pristine shape, this truck was more than a few years old and sat outside in the UV rays all its life. Making that lightly pigmented, silver paint a little bit fragile for the glue pull method.

Yes, there was a high risk of pulling the paint right off of the vehicle, and I wasn’t about to take that risk.

So accessing the dent from underneath was the best option.

Now, I very well could have performed the repair with the door on the vehicle while lying on the ground (I have done many like that), but removing it from the vehicle and securing it to a stand allowed me to very cleanly, efficiently, and yes comfortably remove that damage completely, in a matter of hours and in my client’s garage, to boot.

Needless to say, my client was thrilled with the results, and I am grateful for the opportunity.

Jeep Dents happen! That’s OK because we can get them out for you!

This particular little dent happens a lot on Jeep Wranglers when the door strap comes loose, allowing the door to pivot almost 180°, forcing the side view mirror into the cowl panel, near the hood.

These dents can vary in depth and diameter. The price can vary from $250 to around $550.

If they’re really deep, it helps to unbolt the “A“ Pillar cap for a little extra access, which gives us a second angle to work the damage.

Sometimes the tiniest dent can be so annoying!

Yes, we can fix those too! And even though it’s small, there is a proper way to do it.

The Damage

Typically, a tiny ding like this can be removed externally with the glue pull method.

This particular panel had been repainted though so using our hot glue method was too risky. Pulling on the aftermarket paint on a rigid aluminum panel could result in removing the paint!

So I opted instead to push the dent out from behind.

Access was tough, since there was a reinforcement brace directly behind that portion of the door. I was able to safely access the dent through the door’s “wire loom”.

When accessing through the wire loom opening, it is imperative to be mindful of the wiring and internal door mechanisms, to ensure that we are not prying against and/or damaging anything.

In the end, the tiny ding was left as though it never even happened, and my client was absolutely thrilled.

Dent Removal Without Painting on this 2016 Volvo XC90

In this video: I remove and reinstall (R&I) the interior trim panel in order to access behind the dent.

Many times, we can remove Dings & Dents from the outside, using the “Glue Pull Method”, but one of the dings was a bit too deep, so I needed to attain access behind it with a Paintless Dent Removal (PDR) Rod.

In the end, the results were factory spec. The trim panel was carefully reinstalled and the dents were completely undetectable. My customer was ecstatic.😊
