Gary Rains first worked in a 2-car body shop behind his house in Fairmont. Repairing cars was not his full-time job; he worked 70+ hours a week for a meat packing company downtown, but still found time to help out friends and family while he taught himself about auto body repair. Two years later a local dealership went out on a limb and gave him a single car to repair. He fixed it, painted it, cle

aned it up and returned it to them by the end of the same day. That led to another car, and another car, and soon they hired him to manage their entire service department. In 1978 he went out on his own and started Gary Rains Body Shop. Because of his commitment to quality, the business went from a humble 2-car garage in his backyard to five full-service auto body shops that still remain in the family today.
