San Diego air cooled VW, fiesta en la playa XVIII event

09/15/2026

We got some more parts for this project, slowly but surely it will come back together.

Thanks to John from the San Diego Air Cooled (VW Club), for these new (to me) bumpers, mounting brackets and engine lid.

I’ll surely swing by to I.B. this Sunday, see some cool rides and maybe get some more parts!

I swear, it’s NOT A BAJA BUGGY.

I’m just using what is available to protect the engine… and hoarding rims/tires.

We got from left to right:
For the rear of the 1972 Super Beetle:
* Wheels pattern: 4×114.3
* Wheel diameter: 16”
* Wheel overall width lip to lip: 12”
* Wheel tire size: 31”
* Backspacing: 3⅜”
* Rear only
Will not keep those tires on, but it’s a cool starting setup for later tires…

For the front of the 1972 Super Beetle:
* Wheels: 4×130
* Wheel diameter: 15
* Wheel overall width: 4.5”
* Offset ~ET34
* Factory tire: 205/70/R15
Will probably keep that setup as-is.

Currently on 1972 Super Beetle from factory:
* Wheels: 4×130
* Wheel diameter: 15
* Wheel overall width: 4”
* Offset ~ET40
* Factory tire: 155/80/R15
Will become an alternative setup, since those are “special rims”

Precision? Don’t need no stinking machining, we got wire wheels…

Told you we did thing before the month ended…

Well it finally happened, the vehicle has been relocated, again.
Vehicle and engine are at the same location once again, this time to be coupled together.
The last days of July were exciting.
