Short answer: empty trucks. πŸš›

Every fall, thousands of cars head south to Florida. Carriers load up going down β€” and then they need to get back.

A driver heading north with an empty trailer is losing money every mile. So northbound loads get priced lower to fill those spots.

That's why right now:
⬇️ New York β†’ Florida starts at $1,049
⬆️ Florida β†’ New York starts at $749

If you're moving north this fall, you're shipping in the cheaper direction.

Same 1,300 miles. Same highway. $300 apart. 🧭

Car shipping prices aren't just about distance β€” they're about direction.

Right now everyone is heading south for the winter. Trucks fill up fast going down I-95, so southbound rates climb. Coming back north, carriers would rather haul a paying load than drive home empty β€” so the price drops.

πŸ“ New York β†’ Florida: from $1,049

"Truckers are going on strike October 1st." You've probably seen it. Here's what's actually going on. πŸš›

There is no nationwide trucker strike.

The claim started with a single viral video posted September 15, saying truckers would park their rigs "until fuel prices drop" and telling people to stockpile food for six months. No union or trucking association organized it. The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association and the Teamsters both said they had no knowledge of any planned strike. Some individual drivers did park on October 1, but nothing coordinated happened.

What IS real is the reason the video caught fire.

β›½ Diesel averaged $6.39 a gallon nationally on October 1, according to AAA. A year ago it was $3.71.

πŸ’Έ OOIDA says every $1-per-gallon increase adds roughly $400 a week to a small operator's fuel bill. Do the math and the average owner-operator is about $1,000 a week behind where they were this time last year.

πŸ“‰ Small carriers make up more than 90% of trucking companies in America. Most run load to load and can't raise rates overnight when fuel spikes the way large fleets can.

βš–οΈ And here's why a "strike" was never really possible: owner-operators aren't employees. They're independent small businesses, so the labor-law protections that let unions strike don't apply to them. OOIDA said it couldn't organize one even if it wanted to.

These drivers are the people who actually move cars across the country. When fuel hits them this hard, it's worth understanding β€” not panicking over.

What it means if you're shipping a car: there's no disruption from a strike, and carriers are running normally. But fuel feeds directly into what carriers will accept for a load. If diesel stays at these levels, shipping rates tend to follow within a few weeks.

We're looking for content creators to work with. πŸš›

Cross Auto Transport is a licensed auto transport company headquartered in Chicago, shipping vehicles nationwide. We're building an affiliate program and we want to build it with people who genuinely know cars and trucks β€” not through an agency that's never been on a loading ramp.

Who we're looking for:

- Car enthusiasts β€” builds, restorations, auction buys, flips
- Truckers and owner-operators
- Moving, relocation and PCS content
- Road trip, van life and overlanding creators
- Anyone whose audience ships vehicles, or is about to

What we offer:

βœ… Affiliate commission on every booking through your link
βœ… Access to our actual pricing and dispatch data β€” numbers nobody else publishes
βœ… Cross-promotion of your content on our channels
βœ… Non-exclusive partnership β€” work with whoever you like
βœ… A direct line to our team, not a submission form

We're not looking for huge follower counts. We're looking for people whose audience trusts them. Our first affiliate was a customer who shipped her car with us, tracked it across four states with an AirTag, and signed up afterward because the experience held up.

If that sounds like something you'd want to be part of, reach out:

Maryam did something we wish more people would do.

Before we picked up her car, she stopped at Target, bought an AirTag, and dropped it in the glovebox. Then she watched it the entire way β€” Chantilly, Virginia to Manns Choice, Pennsylvania to Portage, Indiana, and on into Chicago.

Her message when it arrived: "arrived in perfect condition!!!!"

She liked the experience enough that she's now one of our affiliates, so take her word with that in mind. But the footage is hers and the tracking is real.

Here's the thing we'd genuinely like people to know: put an AirTag in your car. We don't mind. Nothing happens on that truck that we'd need you not to see.

Most of the anxiety around shipping a car comes from not knowing where it is. A $29 tracker solves that, and it costs us nothing to encourage it.

A dad booked his daughter's car from New York to Arizona. A month ahead of her college term. He picked the company on reputation, after doing research. He paid.

The pickup date came. No driver.

The next morning at 4:30am, his phone rang. There's a driver β€” but the route needs $400 more.

He paid it. Then that driver "filled." More days went by. His daughter now needed the car for school and work, which the company knew.

Then a senior agent called. Past the guaranteed delivery date by this point. There's a driver who can adjust his route β€” for $700 more.

His words: "I cannot start over with a new company."

That's the whole thing. Not a fake company. Not a stolen deposit. A real business with a real phone number, waiting until the moment he couldn't walk away.

Here's what most people never get told πŸ‘‡

Most companies you find online are brokers, and a broker doesn't own trucks. They post your car to a load board where independent carriers choose loads based on whether the money works for the miles.

So a quote priced well under market doesn't move your car β€” it books you. No driver takes the load. It sits. And then the real number shows up.

The broker with the lowest quote has the least reason to move your car at that price. 🎯

Four things that would have stopped it:
βœ… Get the total in writing, stated as final
βœ… Nothing paid until a carrier is actually assigned
βœ… MC and USDOT verified in FMCSA SAFER before you book
βœ… Three quotes β€” then throw out the lowest one

We wrote up his case and two others, with the screenshots:

"Is my car insured?" is the first question almost everyone asks us. The answer is yes β€” but the part nobody explains is what that yes actually covers.

Your vehicle is covered. Every licensed carrier is required by law to carry cargo insurance, and it's active the whole time your car is in their hands β€” including loading and unloading, which is honestly when most small stuff happens.

What's NOT covered catches people off guard:

🚫 Anything you left inside the car. Personal items aren't documented, so they ride at your own risk.
🚫 Damage that was already there. That's what the pickup inspection is for.
🚫 Mechanical problems, unless transport caused them.
🚫 Dust and road grime on an open carrier. That's not damage, that's just what happens when a car rides outside for 1,300 miles.

And one detail most people get wrong: the policy belongs to the carrier physically hauling your car, not the broker who arranged it. That matters a lot if you ever need to file.

The single most important thing you can do? At delivery, walk the car before you sign the Bill of Lading. If new damage isn't written on it, a claim afterward gets very hard. Two extra minutes saves a real headache.

Full breakdown here β€” what's covered, what isn't, and how a claim actually works:
