(MY WORD-MY BOND)
“When someone says, Yes I will, No I won't, I do, yes or no, this person is usually giving his/her word to a particular someone or something. When someone gives their word, they are giving up something of value, something personal or important to them. They are in essence saying, "you can hold me to that or I commit myself to that particular someone or something". A person lives their word to show that they can be trusted.
When a person commits themselves, for example, to a baseball team, job, school, a particular organization or group of people, you are saying you will not default on this. If a person defaults on his word they are usually ashamed, embarrassed or looked down upon.
No responsible individual with self respect will allow upon himself this type of degradation and humiliation. So a person of dignity will be aware, and take the initiative to guard himself and say, "Is my word my bond? Can I be relied upon and trusted?". Do you give your all (100%) to your commitments? If you do, then its because of your dignity and loyalty to yourself and your cause.
Always be sincere when giving your word, be a person to yourself and one that can be relied upon and trusted.
"Always be the type of individual whom people can look upon and say, there goes a person you can count on.".

(The fire in this case is the burning effects of poverty, lost direction, and progressive states of self-destruction.) The same is true with the lack of Leadership for the people. The two must combine to coordinate the movement, and each part must do its share in reaching the goals of the group. What is more important is that the directions of the Organization / (MOVEMENT) be set forth, and that each concerned member (((adhere))) to those directions, making the necessary sacrifices required to accomplish the objectives.”

Greetings Brothers (and Sisters):
In the name of the leadership (The Chairman and the Board of Directors), we bid you Love! Brothers and Sisters, we say this in all sincerity. When you say the words, "Love To You!” you are really saying: "I am willing to accept responsibility for you; and I am willing to (((share))) responsibility with you." Many of us have used this phrase without really meaning it, or knowing the definition of it.
Our Nation is becoming highly technical (e.g., Written Reports, Bookkeeping, Program Proposals, Entrepreneurism, Software Coding, Engineering, etc)….”
“…. It is our responsibility to acquire the necessary skills to keep our Nation functioning at its capacity. We must take the initiative to learn what we must, in order to preserve our heritage!
It is our duty to inform you that we, (The Leadership) have declared war! Our enemies are twofold: (Complacency) and (Apathy)! Before we can conquer our enemies, we must first identify them. Complacency, is the absence of initiative.
Our membership is replete with guys (& gals) who have no goals in life, other than enjoying their recreational periods (club, lounge, vip booth, etc.); or just laying back watching television. These guys (& gals) don't know anything of worth, and don't want to learn! When asked if they would participate in our school program, a program that would teach them the necessary skills to fill a position of authority, they have the audacity to be offended; as if someone were trying to belittle them.
Our second, and greatest enemy, is Apathy. Apathy is the suppression of initiative.
There are some of us who are highly qualified to take on roles of Leadership, but choose to shirk responsibility. Either they don't care what happens to this (National Movement), or they feel they won't get the proper acclaim for the effort they're required to give; or because of envy or hatred they're willing to let another fail, saying all the time to himself or others, "I could have done better".
Brothers (and Sisters), we will stand for you, and with you! But the fight cannot be won by us (alone), it will take your support and participation.
Your Leadership doesn't want to force you to attend school, but due to our struggle to maintain adequate personnel, it is our sincerest hope this cause will inspire you to rise to the occasion.

Mr. Hoover, can you give us a summarized definition of the New Concept of Growth & Development?
“Our gang days are over, and Growth and Development is an educational, economical, political and social movement and organization. My life and education in prison, gave me a new conception of power.
It's a natural state of evolvement”, Teaches the Hon. Larry Hoover.
He says; "Everything's changed. As you mature, you change. Your priorities change, your perspectives change. The difference between a gang and an organization is the principles and the goals that they apply.”
“If you live by morals and principles, then moving from Gangster Disciples to Growth and Development, ain't no different than the Elks or Masons or some other organization. It's principles that you live by, and it takes time to move from one stage to another. But you peer toward that stage.
Every ethnic group, they start out with these street gangs, (THE IRISH, THE ITALIAN, THE GERMAN, ETC.) but as they mature they turn into something far more powerful and totally legitimate and something that could be a credit to the community. And that's all it is, it's an evolvement. You go from one stage to another."

QUESTION:
MR. HOOVER ARE YOU THE SAME TODAY AS YOU WERE 23 YEARS AGO (NOW 40 YEARS AGO SINCE HIS INCARCERATION) are you the same today as you were then?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “I'm a much different person than I was 23 years ago. I was a young man without direction relegated to a certain sphere in life. I've broadened my views on life.”
QUESTION:
Grand Master…what about the accusations from President Clinton and Chicago Mayor Daley that you were and are the ring leader of criminal activity?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “I believe the reason for the attacks is because I have the capacity to galvanize the youth, and get them involved in the democratic process. By educating them and bringing them into the political process, that represents a voting bloc that could change the tide of (any) local election. They don't want us to become a part of the system.”
“Them kids…my poor children, when they was involved with the political process that I used as an instrumental force to change their lives from a negative to a positive, they had more problems from the police on those election days than any time they had before they changed their lives to a positive and productive force away from a negative destructive force and when they was on the corner selling crack and shooting each other. They was putting them in jail, beating them up, harassing them, trying to deter them from making a change in their life up under the guise that because they was gang members or ex-gang members they wasn't supposed to be involved.
I think it's racism that Black gangs are specifically (not allowed) to evolve into something better. Everybody else has done it, Irish, Italians and (Mayor) Daley's father did it. To say that we can't evolve and to sabotage that effort is pure racist.”
QUESTION:
My Grand Master Hoover, You mentioned the harassment, but can you give us another example of police preventing you and (THE WE) from entering the political process?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “When we tried to put together a peace process, we brought in street organizations from all around the country with a legitimate effort to stop the violence in the community (in 1993).
This is when I conceived the concept and founded the UNITED IN PEACE MOVEMENT. But Instead of the (mayor) supporting our peace efforts he spoke out against it. If he had the legitimate concern for what's going on in the So-called Black community, what he should have said was, 'I'm skeptical about the outcome of this peace process, but if it saves one life in the Black community then I'm for it.'
But he antagonized the effort that was put together by pushing for and supporting the dissenters, agitators and renegades to keep up the violence that was spurring in our community.”
QUESTION:
Mr. Hoover, Are you saying that Mayor Daley has helped in the death, destruction and drugs in the community?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “Yes. My United In Peace Organization and The Peace Process throws their system out of whack. Peace in the community would clear up the court system and empty the jails.
Once you get peace and start getting involved with the political process and you develop (self determination), then the puppeteers and puppets of the SYSTEM are going to lose jobs.
When we put United In Peace and the peace process into action a couple years ago in 1993, there was a dramatic decline in the violence in communities like Englewood, which had the number one murder rate in the country, Robert Taylor, Cabrini-Green, Stateway Gardens, Ida B. Wells, Altgeld Gardens, etc. from East, South to the West Sides of Chicago, IL, these communities had IMMEDIATE drops in violence.”
QUESTION:
Mr. Hoover, with all due respect and to set the record straight...are you involved in (any) criminal activity?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “No”
(At this time of the session WE pressed the issue in order to set the record straight and make it known to the streets and the corrupt young and old and even those in high positions of elected political office who engage in criminal behavior….all using in one way or the other the name of Larry Hoover)…

Well, Mr. Hoover, we’ve experienced for ourselves, just yesterday, somebody attempting to do criminal activity and claiming to do it in your name. Can you explain this? - -
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “That's a problem. It's both a blessing and a curse that these, my children have enough respect for me to carry my name for such a long time. A lot of times its not just kids, its older guys, because my name carries stretch and influence. They use the name and then in darkness they abuse the name. But I've matured.”
QUESTION:
Grand Master Hoover is that also a big problem; moving the organization and its legitimate structure into maturity?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “It is definitely a problem, nothing is going to happen spontaneously, it's going to take time. Through Growth and Development we have been involved in the peace and political process, gave large gatherings, concerts and community clean ups. All these are just starts, but you got to start someplace. Once they get involved and they see some success that motivates them to work. We are a people that need things tangible.”

My Grand Master, with all due respect to the current FRAME that you are fighting, those indicted with you, what is their association to you?
ANSWER:
GRAND MASTER HOOVER: “Inside my wife's office (the police) took a file that had locations of all organizations that was a part of the peace process; ... (The police) put it in the paper and said it was a drug chart. I hope they do bring that to the trial because everyone (street organization leaders)within the city had a chart like that so they would know who to call in time of trouble and attack by the SYSTEM and THE POWERS THAT BE. Therefore I need everyone’s aid and assistance to raise the awareness of the community and get the truth out about our revolution against the lie and the liars who are at war with the peacemakers”

We are all Black & Brown people. When we get in front of this judge he doesn’t ask you if you are a (former) Gangster Disciple, Black Disciple, Vice Lord or El Rukn.
He don't say because you a Vice Lord you get two years and a Gangster Disciple get 10 years. Both of you are Black and Brown and you'll get 10 years..
It shows that we're all (one people) under attack by the powers that be and if we don't come together with each other then we are all going to perish.

What did you think about the Million Man March? (1995)

“I thought the Million Man March was the most beautiful thing that has happened in the late 20th century. It was time to bring about some (unity). There hasn't been no (movement) since the 60s.
Black youth had no alternative, nothing to look to nothing to feel good about themselves and the Million Man March brought about that feeling of well being.
And this is what my Growth & Development movement will do for the world in the 21st century.”

What do you think about Minister Farrakhan?

“I respect him. There is no other leader who has the respect of so many different segments of our community, including the youth.
(If the truth was known about me then we would be equally loved and respected.)”
“Nobody else could have put that call out there for the Million Man March and got that kind of response. He's perpetuating the movement for Black people to get beyond where they are today.”

“If I didn't do nothing to reach out for them kids, I would feel like I done them a disservice, with the love, reverence and respect these kids show me all over the country.
I've got to give them some direction.
We are a sleeping giant and all we have to do is be conscious enough to rise, but until (Black clergy, politicians, and business men) get involved with street organizations, and grassroots movements, ain't nothing going to change.
They (Black clergy, most politicians and a lot of business men) alienate the Black youth to the point where they oppose them (the Youth) and right now they fear the Black youth…
but men of honor and conscience are going to have to put aside their fear and try to work and redirect that energy.
It can be done.
They have progressive thinkers within my organization, Jeff’s organization and several other street organizations that want to work with the community, but the community has got to embrace them.”
