NOW HIRING – Experienced Welder, Chesapeake, VA
Norfolk Dredging Company is seeking an experienced Welder to join our repair yard team. This position supports the maintenance and repair of dredges, tugboats, barges, and heavy marine equipment in a hands-on industrial environment.
Pay range: $24-$36 per hour. Final starting pay is based on experience, ability, and successful completion of a hands-on welding test.
This is a long-term opportunity with a stable, family-owned company working on large-scale marine and heavy equipment projects.
What you’ll be doing:
Repairing and maintaining dredges, barges, tugboats, and support equipment
Performing structural steel repairs and fabrication
Assisting with equipment maintenance projects
Operating welding and cutting equipment safely and efficiently
Supporting repair yard operations as needed
Maintaining a safe and organized work environment
Requirements:
Proven welding experience in industrial, construction, shipyard, or heavy equipment environments
Experience with SMAW (Stick), GMAW (MIG), and/or FCAW (Flux Core) welding processes
Ability to perform structural steel repairs and heavy equipment welding
Ability to read and interpret basic prints, drawings, and repair instructions
Strong fabrication and fit-up skills
Ability to perform quality welds in multiple positions
Experience with oxy-fuel cutting and fabrication
Commitment to safety and quality workmanship
Must be able to pass a welding performance test
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical exam and drug screen
Participation in a random drug testing program is required
Valid driver's license

Requirements:

Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
Ability to perform physical labor and lift up to 50 pounds
Valid driver’s license

Tug Miss Judy

The Miss Judy is a 59-foot commercial tugboat built in 2021 by Corn Island Shipyard for the Norfolk Dredging Company based out of Chesapeake, Virginia. The vessel was constructed under hull number 347 and completed its US Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection (COI) survey in early 2021 before entering maritime service. It primarily operates along the US East Coast to assist in industrial dredging, channel maintenance, and heavy marine construction operations

Built in 1984, by Moss Point Marine Incorporated of Escatawpa, Mississippi (hull #050) as the Seacor Guard for Seacor Marine Holdings of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. n 2011, she was acquired by Atlantic Gulf Towing Incorporated of Norfolk, Virginia. A division of the Norfolk Dredging Company of Norfolk, Virginia. Where the tug was renamed as the Miss Cate.
