Augusta Adult and Community Education Partners with American Transportation Academy to Expand Access to CDL Class A Training
Augusta, Maine | October 2026
Augusta Adult and Community Education (AACE) is pleased to announce a new partnership with American Transportation Academy (ATA) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) designed to expand access to career training and workforce development opportunities, including Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A training.
This partnership creates a pathway for eligible adult learners to pursue CDL Class A training, opening doors to careers in the transportation and trucking industries. By connecting adult education with specialized workforce training, AACE and ATA are working together to help individuals gain the skills and credentials needed to pursue new employment opportunities.
Through the partnership, AACE will help students prepare for training by supporting academic readiness and connecting eligible individuals with resources to help them take the next step toward their career goals. AACE Workforce Coordinator Kelli Gilzow Stowell will work directly with students to help them prepare for training, navigate available resources, and take the steps needed to succeed in their career pathway.
“Partnerships like this are an important part of our commitment to helping adults move forward,” said Dr. Kayla Sikora, Director of Augusta Adult and Community Education. “CDL Class A training can open the door to meaningful career opportunities. We are excited to work with American Transportation Academy to help individuals access training and explore whether financial assistance may be available to support their goals.”
Trisha Watson of American Transportation Academy shared her enthusiasm for the partnership: “Through this collaboration, students will have the opportunity to develop the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to pursue their CDL and explore employment opportunities in an industry that plays a vital role in Maine’s economy. We look forward to seeing this relationship grow and help strengthen our community.”
The partnership reflects AACE’s ongoing commitment to strengthening workforce development opportunities throughout the region by working with training providers and community partners to reduce barriers to education and employment.
