Tom McRae and Norm Miller organized the first Great Race, back in 1983. They worked hard to promote the event, and turned it into one of the greatest automotive events of all time. The Great Race is a time, speed, endurance rally, meaning the goal wasn't to get to the finish line first, but to precisely finish each checkpoint in a pre-determined amount of time. Each vehicle has a driver and a navi

gator, and the team uses a calibrated speedometer to make sure they stay on schedule, according to the day's route. It's a grand event that turns average car guys into local celebrities, as these classic cars make their way through small towns on their way across the country.

Check this out! Three previous Great Race cars are being offered at the Mecum Auction event in Nashville, TN in September. The three cars come from the Roush Automotive collection, so they have direct ties to Jack Roush. This Ford legend competed in the Great Race for several years during the 1990's.

A 1932 Ford coupe sponsored by Stahls Motors and Music Experience finished second place overall in this weekend’s Great Race Spring Rally in Springfield MO.

The event, also sponsored by Stahls Motors and Music Experience, is a three day Cloverleaf Rally to help vintage vehicles prepare for the Great Race. The 10 day cross country event in late June will travel route 66 from Illinois to California.

The 32 Ford was driven by Buddy Green of Wilmington, North Carolina and was navigated by Trevor Stahl of Bluffton, South Carolina. They finished just behind last year‘s Great Race grand champions Jeff and Eric Fredette out of Illinois and their 1933 Ford truck.

Two other Stahls Motors and Music Experience sponsored vehicles also completed the Great Race Spring Rally: a 1916 Hudson with Jack Pontius and Dan Stahl and a 1941 Packard with Brett and Noah Stahl.

After the trip to Key West, the Revology Boss 429 returned to the AMCM here in Melbourne, Florida, after covering more than 800 trouble-free miles on the round trip. Once it was cleaned up, we repacked for the much longer trip ahead. There were no issues to report, and the car performed great for the entire drive. One thing you really notice along the way is the amount of attention it gets, along with some interesting driving from other motorists trying to get into position for a photo.

From Melbourne, the car then headed north to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Merritt Island. Farther up the coast, we stopped at the awesome Daytona International Speedway, along with the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. While we weren’t able to get on track at Daytona, we were able to get inside the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse, which is the second-tallest lighthouse in the country, behind only the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in North Carolina.

Here are some photos from the second leg of our journey.

Check back for more from our cross-country trip in this Revology Boss 429. You can also follow along with the ongoing Great Race, running June 20–28, with plenty of great coverage and videos available at GreatRace.com.
