Tom McRae and Norm Miller organized the first Great Race, back in 1983. They worked hard to promote the event, and turned it into one of the greatest automotive events of all time. The Great Race is a time, speed, endurance rally, meaning the goal wasn't to get to the finish line first, but to precisely finish each checkpoint in a pre-determined amount of time. Each vehicle has a driver and a navi

gator, and the team uses a calibrated speedometer to make sure they stay on schedule, according to the day's route. It's a grand event that turns average car guys into local celebrities, as these classic cars make their way through small towns on their way across the country.

Great Race Director Brad Phillips has been involved with rallying for quite a few years, first starting with the Coker Tire Challenge (a regional rally in Chattanooga, Tennessee) and then getting his first big taste of the Great Race in 2011. Brad's choice of vehicle? An AMPHICAR...which lasted less than one day of competition, but he finished the race in a Porsche 911. He was hooked, and now he's the man in charge...pretty cool!

KFOCI Welcomes the Great Racers to Tucumcari, NM

The 68th Annual Kaiser Frazer Owners Club International Convention promises to be one of the most memorable gatherings in our club’s history. Next year, we won’t just be traveling to Tucumcari—we’ll be celebrating three remarkable milestones that connect our love of automobiles with the rich story of America. As we come together, we will honor the 100th anniversary of the legendary 2,448‑mile U.S. Route 66, the Will Rogers Memorial Highway, while also commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This rare convergence of history, heritage, and fellowship sets the stage for a week filled with connection, celebration, and unforgettable experiences. It’s the perfect moment for us to gather as a club, strengthen our bonds, and create new memories together.

Adding to the excitement, this year marks a first for KFOCI: we will proudly host a stop of the nationally renowned Great Race. This extraordinary cross‑country rally of vintage automobiles will travel from East to West, and on the morning of June 24, 2026, the racers will depart Texas and roll into Tucumcari for a special lunch stop—right in the middle of our convention week. To honor their arrival, we will line up our own Kaisers as a welcoming honor guard, creating a spectacular display of automotive pride and unity. The local Rollerz Only Car Club will join us as well, helping turn this into a true community celebration. With racers competing for a remarkable $160,000 prize, the energy and excitement will be unforgettable.

This is more than a convention—it’s a celebration of camaraderie, history, and the spirit of adventure that brings us together year after year. We warmly invite you to join us in Tucumcari as we make this milestone event one for the history books.
